Thank you Howard - I wondered about that too - nature of the game I guess.
I never mean to upset or annoy people, but put my view on how I see things; sometimes as a Councillor, sometimes as an individual and resident of Dover.

Now wait a minute Alexander,Bob Goldfield told me personally that the start on T2 was imminent.

It could be that DHB changed their opinion in the meantime, and decided after all that T2 should go ahead immenently. If Bob Goldfield told you so recently, then this must no-doubt be the case.
Personally I have nothing against T2 going ahead if it is needed, although my recommendations are that a rail-link be connected to Western Docks for rail-freight.

Alexander, DHB are required to to supply that rail link. As well as T2 .

That's nice news, Paul. The rail link was part of my representation to the Secretary of State for Transport.
Can you let us know some more about it, if it is not indescrete on my part to ask, of-course. I never received any news about the rail link proposal from London, other than that the Secretary of State was considering what I wrote.
Thanks anyway for the information there!

All I know is that land is secured for rail freight should there be a market & request.
It would not carry sufficient amounts to make an impact on road freight numbers due to capacity reasons.

..and also consideration should be given to making a passenger rail connection. Round Kent heritage railtours could be run in connection with the visiting cruise liners. Bulleid and Standard pacifics could once again depart from Dover Marine station hauling luxury trains...that would make the Dover Brand even more attractive. Still DHB has no significant local heritage policy ... People's Port-way to go!

...as for freight, containers could be transferred direct from ship to train. Quite right Paul no direct impact on road freight numbers-but it would ultimately hit Eurotunnel where it hurts.

the longer we wait the more it looks like the peoples port is a non starter.
with regard to containers the only ones we get are the fruit ones that arrive at the eastern end.
Trying to ask a Town's residents what they would like is like asking a group of children what sort of sweet they want out of a whole bag and hoping they'll all come up with the same choice.
That's what we have architects, designers and planning experts for.
We have voiced our opinions many times on this forum about what we want and if what we want dose not meet with what some individual wants then we don't get anything the council and its members all have there own a gender thats why this town has been left like it has since Hitler dropped his bombs on it. And when they do do something they use cowboys who have to come back time and time again to put it right. I would like to see a new British Legion club in dover as a front line town we don't have one any more and with many X service men still around it would be a great place to meet and please don't tell me it cant be done as I have inquired and the legion will fund the startup. But Chris you are banging your head against a brick wall because if there is nothing in it for them you will get no help and as you can see from the posts we are a bunch of children waiting to be led by are masters.

The good thing about a rai link, is that it would provide the basis for freight by rail in the future, without necessarily having to herald a change from road to rail in one week.
With oil prices increasing dramatically, companies might decide to change of their own accord to rail-freight gradually, as it could work out cheaper.
Then there is the carbon-emission part of the context, with rail being an obvious advantage. Of-course a rail link for passengers could be an extra optional, but I doubt it would be high on the agenda of DHB, as the Channel Tunnel already caters for travellers by train with direct high-spped connections to and from Ashford.
Howard, I had almost forgotten about the people's port; now, where was it again?

Alex mentioning "rail link" reminds me anyone lucky enough to get free rail travel can not use the high speed train between 4.00pm and 7.00pm as I found out on my return journey after seeing the wonderful Les Miserables on Wednesday afternoon.

Howard-come on-the longer we wait the more it becomes apparent that DHB are running out of excuses.
The Peoples Port is just down there on the sea front Alexander. Really I thought you knew Dover. The only thing high on the agenda of DHB appears to be inflating the notional value of the port as much as possible.

Yes Jan-I found that out when I travelled up to Middlesborough to see 'Dover'. Luckily on the way back I had only to wait for the 19.20 to get the priv travel.

Richard, slightly irritating but completely understandable who wants to travel during the rush hour anyway. I caught the 19.12 (time change?) so had an hours wait, Starbucks coffee was very nice though.
