I went to this meeting last night Avery big headline as you can see,but I am finding it hard to see where this group is going.
Do not get me wrong there was Voluntary groups there and we all know what a good job they are doing, and what the Dover District Council is trying to do is also well meaning, but sorry I can not see as I said a clear Agenda where it all will be in a years time.
The downside again will be funding the K.C.C were there to,and again we were all being told the the KCC is right behind this group and will make it a NO1 task to take it forward.
But as I put it to them, how can you say that ,when I was at the KCC Budget meeting last week and at that meeting we were asked about saving that must be made in Health care and the Elderly.
He went on to tell us all tonight meeting is not about the cuts and the budgets,I went on to tell him you can not do both,by saying the KCC is going to help ,and in the same voice cuting the funding that is needed.
So without anyfunding no clear Agenta to work to,I have a feeling that it willend up like many before it.
Also I went on to aske how will this group work with the NHS, with so many groups already trying to do this, The NHS is already has a overload with trying to work with all the groups and the amount of time and paper work all this takes. So how is this group going to be above the rest, and to get taken notice of. Again that was not very clear.
What the D.D.C.is trying to do is good and well done to the officers behind it,BUT will it work?

i think vic is spot on with his observations about cuts, this meeting seems to be more about appeasing the public and pretending they have a voice.
i cannot see the point of the n.h.s. being involved in this either, they have enough on their plates without getting bogged down with another organisation.

You are right Howard. As I said I just find it hard to think what and where this group will change things round in anyway, but again I have been wrong in the pass ,so time will tell. As I said in the new year will see me stoping 80% of what I am doing now. I have never been that good in the first place but gave it my best shot. But looking forward to geting out more with Lesley, I said all this last year but mean it this time. But will miss it. I do wish this new group all the best in what they are going to try and do,but without anyfunding is that possibly? I do not know.

Whichever council or department paid for this meeting seems to have wasted money as the whole event seems a bit pointless, I thought they were supposed to be cost cutting.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

keith
whilst there will be cuts to essential services you can be assured that there will always be money available for side shows where the great and the good can flaunt themselves.

that meeting was not mentiond on the birthing unit thread and heard it too this evening on merdian.
a bit pointless to mention it then, besides the decision to close has already been made.

Attended the meeting....................Unfortunately they are trying to re-invent the wheel.
Previous health watch groups...........CHC..PPI..LINKS all disbanded because they had teeth and were critical when needed and it had an effect.
This effort being run by KCC and DDC will not rock the boat and will not have teeth........Talking shop.
It will get off the ground amble along then a grassroots group will emerge with people who know their onions but alas consultations with health authorities will always be a waste of time
Decisions will always be made prior to the public having a say.
If you care be there ...........at the Rally............Watch this space
