Dover District Council has launched a tender for an architect to lead a multi-disciplinary design team for its ambitious restoration plans for the Grade I Listed Maison Dieu in Dover town centre. The project was awarded £427,400 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in July to develop further its plans to create a thriving cultural venue.

Certainly an ambitious project and great to get the money for what will be a medium/long term project. To complete the restoration a lot more money will need to be found to fund the conversion of parts into holiday lets that will be a money spinner for the town.

Yup. Sounds interesting Howard.
Looking around Dover the architecture tends to appear mediocre to average.
However, I overheard a group of councillors heading off to some sort of 'secret' meeting earlier in the week, saying something about a 'Great Architect', so I'm looking forward to something spectacular ...............

It is excellent news
Sadly the continuing cost escalation is in many ways due to the lack of regular maintenance etc over the last 70 odd years plus
