18:5387831As Stewart mentioned above, it was The Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996 that made the big change, preceded by lots of publicity and employment of more dog wardens. It made it an offence not to clear up after you dog not only on a footpath but on any road in a 30mph zone.
This was superceded by the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 - just the guidance notes on dog control are 16 pages long, something to think about when you're thinking of taking on a pooch for the first time!

19:3287836I think we should go back to the days of Dog licence and that should be £100 pounds ayear, that should go to the local councils which in return would pay for the cleaning up.fines should be more, sorry we love dogs and miss ours very much but soming has to done and hiting the pocket is the only way.

19:4387837that would be o.k if the elderly and the disabled were exempt, many rely on their dog for company.
the other point against the imposition of dog licences would be that the responsible dog owners and the slobs would still be paying the same, seems unfair to me.

20:4187848The Forum.
An excellent tool for people to discuss and even help the community, Action due to posts and threads has been taken a number of times during our short history.
Why do I get the feeling this subject will come up year after year after year.
On the first day of term the surrounding roads to DGGS ( castle ave and frith rd ) where like a mine field and most of it ended up inside, not a very happy first day back and bloody annoyed cleaners.
One for Terry..........IF any one tells me they speaky no English, they will be wearing a very large turd home.

20:5487850I'm very tempted to take a blank map of our area, walk around and plot all the dog crap I can find Ian. If I do this unpleasant task I'll post the result here. Then perhaps somebody somewhere will take notice? One has to try - it's for all our best interests.

23:1687858Just to explain... I said to Ian that I remonstrated with a person from the lower flats in Granville St about the fact that he was allowing his dog to crap on the pavement. He pretended he couldn't understand me.
I must admit that it was early morning and he was in a hurry to get his minibus (a white Sherpa often parked nearby).
I suppose getting our benefits and doing a job on side must distract the mind.

23:2587860Perhaps Keith, as a former PCSO, might enlighten us as to how many penalty notices have been handed out to owners of fouling dogs in the last year or so? Apparently this is one of the powers they possess.

07:3887865I spoke with the Lady at DDC in charge of the Dog-Warden and she adbvised me that there are 3 live prosecutions; that was a little while ago, but they do prosecute, but they need evidence - photographic evidence is best - of the dog and the owner.
Some entrepreniarial type could ask the Council if they would pay a commission for every dog-owner caught not picking up his dog's mess.
The Council would get more income at very little cost and the pavements etc. would be cleaner.

18:1387919Roger, according to Keith, PCSOs have the power to issue fixed penalties for dog fouling, so why are DDC spending taxpayers' money on it as well?

19:0587942Through the Dog-Warden Peter.
PCSOs may have the power to fine irresponsible dog-owners, but I've not heard that any (PCSOs) have done so.

19:3487952seems to me that the dog warden and the p.c.s.o shoule be liaising if they are not already doing so.
having said that a good p.c.s.o would have many good contacts on their patch and get information from concerned residents.
if i find out who sends their up canine up my path in order that the latter can evacuate their bowels i would have no hesitation in grassing them up.

20:0587953A good PCSO could deal with it themselves if allowed.
The point about PCSO's, community wardens & civilian enforcement officers roles are well made and are often made The responses are always ones of territorial protection but the employing agencies
