16:4885500Vic, you entered local history by bringing UKIP in as Dover's third party, and achieved a milestone in Britain, as UKIP wish at least to maintain this position in the coming by-elections that are being campaigned for, such as in Oldham East, and to build upon it and go further!
People need to know this at other by-elections, so those who are disenchanted with the previous 3-party system, rather than not vote at all, will consider voting UKIP. In Dover, the old 3-party system has been changed, you replaced Lib-Dems with UKIP mate! It deserves to make some headlines around the Country!

18:0885510Vic, there are UKIP supporters in Britain who are taking the election result in Dover as encouragement, hence the social network Twitter. The word is going around, they now know that UKIP has set a stunning example in Dover, swinging LIbDems into fourth place.

18:3685516Funny that because my friend Gordon Brown not that one a UKIP supporter from near Kidderminster thought that UKIP would have a larger support in East Kent as it was so close to France. So I sent him the KCC election result and he was shocked you came third, still as he pointed out on such a low turnout results are sometimes strange.
He said it was a protest result and most would be disaffected Tories and Liberals, but then added as the only real alternative to the Tories he would have voted Labour just to make sure he kept the Tories out as UKIP have no chance at local level and they should be a National party.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

22:1885540John HG, the results in Dover proved to the Nation that UKIP at local level has managed to put the LibDems out of the three main party system, which characterises first of all the media, then the ballot sheet. The many UKIP campaigning leaflets, although limited in nember, no doubt convinced many people not to vote for any of the hitherto 3 main parties.
The leaflets were insufficient to cover all Dover, hence the 3000 votes that went to Labour and the Tories. At this time it does not seem that Labour and the Tories command more than ten per cent of the electorates' votes in Dover!
With these results, Dover is waiting for UKIP to take the next initiative, and the head-office, as Vic pointed out, is aware of the results, and even the Indiatimes online has has edited them! It has become international!

You can if your not careful get carried away with the result.
firstly it was called deliberatly in the hope of a small turn out, and hope the Tories turn out, thankfully they didnt.
secondly
the lib dems are the most unpopular party at the moment, and this blip obviously hit them hard, but they also did no campaigning, didnt even put forward a Dover
candidate, and not one leaflet
thirdly
the lib dems have only ever been a protest party, and votes go to fro at elections
although even i have to admit i don't think they will recover from the latest fiasco's
fourthly
the lib dems in local elections has never been strong(out of 45 cllrs they have 2!!!)
thats because in the past they concentrated on communities but they no longer do.
and the have gone from there highest number of cllrs(10) to today(2) and just about cling onto them two.
fifthly
the UKIP party has still to convince the electorate it has policies on local issues that are sustainable, and are not just an anti europe party
sixthly
the UKIP vote coud have been a protest vote we can only look to MAY to see if this is the case.
seventh
i dont think this resut will be repeated, or get any better
and wont gain any seats in Dover District
