Well well well, yet again the DHB have lied, but this time have been clearly caught red handed. How many more chances do we give these unscrupulous creatures. For those of you that thought goldfield and his puppets were nice professional people, well, welcome to our world !!!

We have never been taken in, however, it is proving increasingly difficult to get rid of them
Dover Harbour Board should be sent over to France and abandoned. Give me the Callais Chamber of Commerce etc. to get their teeth into Dover and it's Port
Give us some life for heavens sake..... They are like the Roman Empire before it imploded!!!
Please Bob go ..... and give us a chance...

Decided to sell the Freight Services Agency without consultation or notice, entered into private negotiations with a private buyer without consultation or notice, not been truthful or open about the decision or the state of the negotiation (denied it was even happenning initially) and only admitted that they were doing it when emails were uncovered by the Union and workers and an FOI to the Home Office revealed that plans to transfer the license to a new operator were quite advanced.
According to Trust Port policy issued by the DfT, the DHB must advise staff of such changes and hold consultations with them prior to entering into negotiations for sale of any part of the business carried on by the Trust Port.
This is not an isolated case, but is endemic within the higher strata of the organisation. The way in which senior managers and executives have been acting, attempted secretive outsourcing, multiple unfair dismissals, attempted secret sales of parts of the business and more, is almost without precedent in recent times.

It is a finger on the nose towards all that Dover and it's Port stood for. How this lot got into Harbour House and have carried out what is obvious to even a casual passer bye, is incredible.
They are the highest form of despots, without a care for anything or anyone except themselves..I find their titles quite incredible.
BarbaraBaczek DHB's head of external and corporate affairs, confirmed last week that "a commercial discussion with an interested third party is taking place."
She said: "A specialist operator has expressed an interest in acquiring and developing the FSA business, in a way that would not be possible within the DHB structure."
An e-mail from Anita Wilson, head of corporate administration, states: "To let you know that Jason Ransley and I had a meeting with FSA staff this morning to advise them that we have been approached by an organisation who are interested in buying the Freight Clearance facility."
I mean, come on, a legal challenge should be made on all of this. They are playing all of us for fools.
When, I went to the last Annual General Meeting at the Ark//you could feel the superior attitude from Goldfield, Bewsbury and Tim Waggott...that they were untouchable..............and maybe they are, because the Port does not belong to Dover or its Town. We are serfs to the Barons, one of the biggest cons, since the War of the UK...

I'm afraid this has been going on for years, DHB management like Dodridge sold us out years ago! DPPT for me please.

Christine, sorry if you thought I meant everyone has been duped by goldfields posse, clearly you have not, and I know of many others like you, thank goodness. Vince believe it or not, Dodridge was once a decent manager, before he took the "bait" and turned his back on his workforce. What Neil says is all true, how much more can this carpet bagger get away with. God help us all !!

Christine, many people are trying and trying. one problem for all of us who have problems with the way in which the port is currently (not) being run is that BG and crew are legally quite canny and whilst their behaviour has been off the edge of decency, they remain inside the law and existing guidelines, generally speaking the right boxes can be ticked even if the spirit has been smashed to bits.
Sooner or later, I hope, they'll either run out of time and be removed from office as part of a community solution for the port or we will turn up something that is flagrantly outside their remit. It can onlly be hoped that as the Secretary of State is kept fully informed of this latest issue and the initial first stages of a complaint are exhausted, he will step forward to prevent further abuses.

This is outrageous- it calls for some kind of demonstration.
Press for DPPT -the only realistic solution.

i agree richard but do dppt plan to have safeguards in place regarding outsourcing of services should they take the throne in a bloodless coup from captain bob?

DPPT have a clear preference for core port services to be delivered by direct employees and for local sourcing of people and services whenever possible.

words like "preference" and "whenever possible" will ring hollow with port workers worried sick about the future.

Safeguards Howard? Built in I would say. Obviously one of the top priorities of team DPPT is to look after and nurture it's staff. The district and the country cannot afford to tolerate egocentric styles of management being applied to key statutory organisations . 'Peoples Port' is the way forward-all the questions have been answered several times(and very often on this forum!).
The expedition of one bloke's whimsical will smacks of arm twisting and dodgy dealing.
WAKE UP DOVER- somebody's making of with the family silver . Thankfully it's not too late to retrieve it.

So, bottom line, what actually do you propose to do about this ? Postings 4 and 5 give a clear out-line as to what is proposed.
There has been one march by the DHB employees, when the mooring people were going to be sourced out...further to that there have been loads of redundancy's by the DHB. The management has culled all the workers, under your noses..
Actually, nothing but words and indignation are produced.....
A quote from My Fair Lady............
Words, words, words
I am so sick of words,
Show me......
You need to show just how much this DHB has a care to it's community etc...which totals nil!!

Having pondered over all this, and asked myself the question: why does DHB outsource so much employment to other firms?, I came to the conclusion that perhaps it is to reduce the burden of the pension pot, which DHB must fund.
The less DHB staff, the smaller the pension liabilities for DHB, where-as outsourcing work at the Port means leaving private firms to send in workers who will not be part of the DHB pension scheme, thus reducing costs for DHB.
Could this be the reason?

However, it does not reduce it's management or the numbers in Harbour House.
They have less and less to administer, and this should be brought to the attention of the Dept of Transport...
The Port is declining but the Management is not...
