Yet more demolition in the town centre, this time at Stembrook. The old Martin Walters and Co Op.Will this site remain empty like the others nearby or are there plans? It feels like the townscape is reverting to its rubble clearance state after 1945 all over again.

Apparently there's no definite plans for the site, but it is rumoured to be some sort of bus park. For the new electric buses maybe, with Pencester's bus parking closing.

I did read the correct article- a hotel in a town with no shops. Assume it’s meant for the hoards who are seeking wonderful nightlife, plentiful amenities and a vibrant atmosphere……hmmmmm!
Sorry…..can’t see it I’m afraid!

Why can they actually do something for the community instead of more hotels..

I thought we were reliably informed that it was to be a coachpark?

The only reason to build yet another hotel in the town is for those crossing the Channel, but is one really needed and will there be enough parking left for locals in Stembrook.

The cabinet also agreed that a collective called the Redevelopment of Stembrook Project Advisory Group, chaired by DDC leader Trevor Bartlett, would steer the project.
I'm sure we can all be mightily relieved to know that.

The fact that the meeting for this was held in private says it all really. About time that stopped.
I predict many years and much money to be wasted.

Unless a serious security matter is being discussed I can think of no plausible reason for any council meeting to be private, far to open for local speculation and possible abuse of power.

It amazes me these projects are are quickly given the green light by DDC but Aycliffe has been waiting for over 6 years for extra parking.. something is seriously wrong with planning..

Councils find it easy to go into private , often far reaching security .
If there open and transparent shoujdnt be in private

There are clearly defined rules about when a local authority can withhold information from its residents, these mostly cover commercial confidentiality matters, as DDC have argued here, though they will be obliged to fully disclose once the contracts are signed and binding on both parties.
Of course failing this full disclosure of the parties will come when planning applications are submitted...
If you believe the authority are breaching the relevant rules or over applying them then you have recourse to the Local Authority Ombudsman's Service.

Let me advise you Ross as you appear more interested than I
I will steer clear of actual places
But when a planning application came in it was down for refusal by the officers
I spoke at the meeting eventually getting it to a site meeting .
With the officers telling me it will never be approved
With NO new evidence
The chairman of the time asked the officer how it could be approved
He then explained and it was !
