10:5478246that cracked me up barry, also appropriate that the forum fuhrer posts on the subject of the military.
it is correct about us having the aircraft carriers and the french having the planes.
there will be logistical problems, mostly between the commanders of the respective forces but the nuclear detterents will always be kept seperately by the two nations.

11:3478255I'm sorry to read that, Brian.
You are right in reminding us that French soldiers fought in two world wars, side by side with British soldiers.
Barry, the French honour their fallen soldiers as we do.

11:4978259In the Second World War, the Italian general Graziano, who had the command of the Italian divisions in Libia, didn.t want to invade Egypt and fight the British, and many Italian soldiers no-doubt disliked the idea too. The orders from Mussolini to fight Britain was not popular in Italy, and that might explain a lot why the Italians didn't put up much of a fight against British divisions, preferring to surrender.
They didn't want to go to war with Britain, and had no dislike towards the British.
On the battlefield, soldiers who are not convinced that an enemy is an enemy will not fight with determination!

12:2678262Brian - I too have friends in the forces, now and previously, some who have died and been injured.
To suggest however therefore there should be no humour about the defence pact with France is daft.
As for UKIP - I have absolutely no idea what that has to do with the no-hoper party.

12:5478266just wondering who will do the catering for the joint force, hope it's not the french, they may deliberately feed our service personnel their left over snails and frogs legs, keeping the good stuff for their own people.

22:1478362Alexander D,
I am much bemused by your fascination with pipes and drums.
As one who has suffered the delights of the kilt for nine years let me put the record straight.
I do not know if you are aware what a plaid is?? any way it is what most people would refer to as that blanket wrapped around there upper torso. well it is locked in place by a plaid broach which has a very long pin. That pin has a double purpose. After one has been standing for hours freezing cold, and finally dismissed, everybody makes a dash for a piss. This is when the broach pin reveals its second purpose. It is used to winkle ones willie out into the freezing cold so that it can perform one of its purposes in its life if you get my drift?? No scotsman would be without one!!

23:36783859yrs eh Jimmy.
I suppose the stories about the Sporran aint true then, I was always told the Scots needed a large willie warmer.
I suppose it was just for small change then.
Don't bite mate. only joking. You never know we may have a pint one of these days.

23:5278386Ian you are closer to the truth than you think. I dont know what you have heard about the sporran, anyway as a willie warmer it was bloody useless.
When I was in we had to walk over a mirror laid on the ground to make sure you did not have under pants on, far less a willie warmer!! Lets face it dover castle in January in a howling gale does not quite live up to any comparsion with St Lucia

00:1878387Way to go Jimmy, slightly off thread...................the only 2 guys I ever had a problem in my career where scotsmen and I still lovingly hate them, I have scots relatives and I love the scots to pieces.
The first one is a Mcdaide if ever I see him again I'll be up for murder, funnily enough he came from York.
The second I won't even speak about. double murder.
Pipes and drums, I can put the head phones on and wake up at 3 in the morning. love it. The Black Bear..bring it on.
Shame about your winkle bud.
