if a foreign power sent troops onto our shores and tried to inflict their political system on us, most of us would call it an invasion and take considerable umbrage over it.

Sorry - I thought that's what happened when the allies defended Europe during WWII.........it was a defence, not an invasion.

Howard, I think PE means remote controled explosive devices, which is one of the main types of warfare waged by the Taliban. It's what causes the by far largest number of deaths and injuries among British and otehr coalition forces in Afghanistan
