"But eurosceptic Conservatives and Labour MPs backed a rebel Tory bid calling for the Prime Minister to push for a real-terms cut in the EU's budget for 2014-20."
This has nothing to do with an EU vote, but merely a vote to stay in the EU. End of!

Keith B, technically Parliament voted to stay in the EU till 2020 and beyond. By voting for any EU budget at all, Parliament has done precisely this!

Your imagination there Alexander. The vote was about a budget only.
Cameron has a real dilemma on how to deal with the rapacious, greedy, corrupt and incompetent EU over their absurd budget. They should be cutting not freezing or increasing it.
He could use a veto which would result in the EU just adopting an annual budget instead for which only a qualified majority vote is needed. It is an example of how self-serving the EU is.
I am more optimistic than ever that we will be out a lot quicker than I previously thought possible. The mechanics are the problem and a yes/no referendum is not the way and is more likely to result in us being locked into it.
Vic - UKIP no hopers will not be the ones to do it.

For,as you put no hopers, they are doing very well thank you, lots of the blues money men are coming over, last night vote will see more.I think the no hopers are the pm,and his backers,or as we call them the U turn gang.

Seen it all before Vic and we have seen them boost pro-Eu representation in the Commons as a result.
