I thought you might like to know that I have reprint of an 1885 book by Vincent Holt called 'Why Not Eat Insects?'. To quote a typical passage:
"The Rev. R. Sheppard many years ago, had some of our common grasshoppers served up at his table, according to the recipe used by the inhabitants of Morocco in the cooking of their favourite locusts. Here it is: 'Having plucked off their heads, legs and wings, sprinkle them with pepper and salt and chopped parsley, fry in butter, and add some vinegar.' He found them excellent."
Later in the book slug soup is advocated.
If you wish I can lend it to you so you can invent a radically different Nouvelle Cuisine for Blakes. I agree though, butterflies would not be good to eat, but could serve a function as decorative garnish. With cabbage, they come ready supplied.
