01:2786003Walking through Dover at various times today noted the following
1. Large chunk of masonry came of the top of the Metropole and landed in the street outside Subway - this happened about 3pm - lucky the town centre was quiet.
2. A large (3m sq ish) chuck of the first/second floor wall of Kings Kebab shop on the alley by the HMRC offices peeled off and crashed into the alley sometime around 9pm this evening.
Both appear to be caused by water/ice ingress
Please be careful out there as this is likely to happen to many more buildings in Dover as the thaw sets in

01:4486004Are you sure it was part of the wall, Ross, not just a slab of the dead man's leg from the kebab shop?

10:1386025Some of central Dover does look as if its crumbling. Do you remember a few years back a large chunk of Burlington House fell onto the pavement below, and I mean a large chunk. Would clearly have killed anyone walking underneath. Fortunately no one walks along there, as to do so would shorten ones time on this planet considerably by breathing in the pungent truck fumes, lung numbing pollution on a grand scale. Nobody walks along there just as well...except for tourists and the foolhardy.
Ross I dont think I want to exit this mortal coil via the droppin masonry route!

14:1486059I thought, wrongly, that it might have been this building.
But it did remind me to ask if it's still in the sorry state as when I took this photo two years ago.
Who owns this beautiful bulilding?

18:3386096what a terrifying thought that someone could have been walking underneath at the time.
we have stacks of neglected buildings in dover with absentee landlords that will no doubt never be taken to task.

19:0986106It looks like there might have been a window there at some time, it is a very regular shape. So very lucky nobody was injured with all that lot coming down.

01:1486141Penny, I think in the 60s that building housed what is now the Jobcentre, but no idea who owns it now.

09:4186154Gosh alarming pictures there Colin. Well done with those. I often nip back to Boland Towers through that very lane as a kind of short cut. Round by the kebab shop and on pass the new extra whitening dentist. Quite shocking to see how something can collapse like that. There's enough masonry there to kill someone...some child...terrible thought.
Penny yes that building is still exactly the same, we did feature it here in the past as one of Dover's appalling eyesores. Particularly so as the building is essentially very attractive. I dont know who owns it but isnt it a great shame to see it left like that and on the tourist path too.

17:1286505As I walked up the town after watching those who were swimming today I was passed by Ashley the Town Centre P.C. in a van, when I got to Subway there was a largish crowd opposite at St Mary's Church all looking up above Subway.
I heard Ashley talking about the falling masonery last week and as I looked some more had come down just missing more people, shame it missed some of those Pi** heads who seem to hang around the 8 B*** all day, everyday.
