Of course we must fight this. Can we look forward to seeing Charlie and Dr. Bob on the same side?
I'm an optimist. But I'm an optimist who takes my raincoat - Harold Wilson
Dover District Chamber of Commerce
What exactly have they contributed towards the Cruise Ships coming into Dover.....considering the amount of time they have been coming to Dover....it is all a shambles, and not co-ordinated at all.....
This is big competition....and Liverpool is an amazing City, who has got it's tourism and culture together.....a Great Place for a Cruise Ship to dock......
I am afraid, and most locals think this....Dover is a dump...only lifted by the Castle and the Cliffs....

I approved this policy personally Charlie and perhaps you should find out what a little about the Chamber before you attack it as you clearly have no idea.

charlie is just saying what most dover people think, what does the chamber of commerce do?
it is not up to people to find out what the chamber do but for the chamber to promote itself.
most people asociate it with the ludicrous market that on saturday had 3(three) stalls.

Howard, that just about sums things up.
This story was on the tv news a few days ago I was surprised this issue was not raised before now.

It have previously explained the role of the Chamber on this forum and if you do not bother to read and understand that is up to you..
If you really want to find out more then take a look at our website, read the frequent press releases and so on. All our members and other businesses get frequent, about 2 per month, newsletters from the Chamber as well.
The people who really need to know are kept informed.

i did as you suggested barry and did not go very far into it, before i convulsed with laughter.
"In an unprecedented initiative, the two largest business support bodies in the East Kent coastal business community, Thanet & East Kent Chamber and Dover District Chamber of Commerce, announce the appointment of three Presidents.
Charlie Elphicke, Member of Parliament for Dover and Deal, has accepted an invitation to serve as President of the Dover District Chamber of Commerce. In a letter to the Chamber, he wrote that he was delighted to be part of the Chamber and is looking forward to helping businesses in the area to "boost revenue and business opportunities".
The Thanet & East Kent Chamber is doubly delighted to announce that Laura Sandys MP for South Thanet & Sandwich, and Roger Gale MP for North Thanet have accepted the invitation from the board of directors to serve as Co-Presidents with immediate effect.
Chief Executive of both Chambers, David Foley said: "The Chamber presidency is a non-political, honourary position requiring great skill in looking after the commercial interests of local companies and their workforce as well as encouraging inward investors. We are thrilled that the East Kent coastal business community will have such a top team batting for us here and at Westminster."

On the subject of cruise ships although not directly related to the above, I see that the AidaBlu is unable to get into Dover for tomorrow due to very bad weather and is berthing at Southampton instead. The Costa Atlantica is also due tomorrow but no news on this one as of yet.

News just in, the Costa Atlantica is now cancelled and docking in Southhampton too, due to the extreme weather conditions.

Maybe the Saturday market should be moved to Western Docks, where cruise liners dock, but then, on second thoughts, that might take away the business of the ice-cream van parked further down the promenade.

And exactly what is funny about that Howard? #9
Charlie Norman - I suggest that you take what I said as a whole rather than one line out of context. The information about the Chamber is there is you choose to look it up. I have explained the role of the Chamber many times on this forum and cannot be bothered to do so yet again. Life is too short.
