some of the criuse liners in dover were massive last year , and over the past few years no incidents
so full credit must go to the port of dover and the tug teams for their work

"the ship's captain and first officer were being questioned by Italian prosecutors on suspicion of manslaughter."

looks like they are finally getting the last people out sadly two more have been found dead.
the seamens union "nautilus" made a good point about the size of these modern cruise liners meaning that it is like evacuating a small town when an emergency arises.
clearly a lot of thought has to go into how problems are addressed in the future, a lot of lifeboats could not be used due to the listing of the ship.

Not sue it would knock anyone's confidence, I certainly wouldn't have any issues. Considering the miles covered by cruise lines are ferries around the work, it it would still be a lot safer than a drink up the M20 every day...
Been nice knowing you :)

the pictures we have seen will seriously hit the cruise business, the age of most of the passengers means that the thought of climbing down ladders out at sea would be terrifying.

Jean couldn't have managed climbing up/down any of the stairs, so would have drowned.
Different people will have a different view of whether they'll book a future cruise or not. Hope it doesn't knock the cruise business, at least not those that call in to Dover.

quite so roger, the fact that people choose cruise holidays suggests that many are not equipped for the more physically arduous safari type breaks.
i hope that recent pictures on our televisions will not hit our local operators too much but it has to have some impact.

Most people will have forgotten all about this awful tragedy by Easter, those involved and their families will remember it for ever.

i think to be fair to the cruise industry and the millions that use this service the chances of such incidents are minimal and safe to travel on.
these incidents do knock the industry, and those involved on the ship won;t forget it for there lives.
roger; some of those saved didnt leave there cabins and were rescued from there, so with jeane that could be a form of survival but that said hopefully this will thre last for some time of such incidents.
most importantly hopefully lessons will be learnt which has the latest figures of
6 dead and a number still missing

It could indeed be a way of surviving Keith, but if you aren't found, it would be a cold coffin to end your days.

Owners admission that ``Captain had `character problems` He was seen to be hard on collegues......and always liked
to be in the limelight.
