Councillor warns of trouble at new flats build in FOLKESTONE rd ,
This headline turned out to be true it went on to say cllr Vic Matcham who represents Maxton,Elms Vale, and Priory Ward, told the meeting of the district council planning committee at the public meeting last Thursday when the proposals were apprroved-that converting the empty buildings in Folkestone rd would be detrimental to the quality of life of people living in the road.
His concerns were supported by the Kent Police, who said in the district council,s report that "Clusters "of criminals living in cheap accommodation had led to complex crime and social problems in the road, including bootlegging, drug dealing, robbery, burglary, and car crimes.
Later in that report the councils chief planning and building control officer Mr Mike Dawson said."That the flats were aimed at preofessionals commuters and first time buyers "and were needed because it was difficult for first-time buyers to afford homes.
This is the part of that report at that time which I found upseting and not true,he then went on to say.
This area is changing ,this is the kind of property with the right links to public transport that could be very much in demand.
That is only a small part of what I said at that time ,sorry but how wrong could the council and its officers of the day get it.And they were told time and time again not only by my self but other councillors what would happen if they went a head with all the flats.Again this was reported in the Dover Express by Miss Sarah Linney who was then a very good reporter .
