Hardly a surprise, on my last birthday I received over a hundred 'birthday greetings' electronically and one card through the post, and that had been produced buy the on-line 'Moon Pig'. Even wrapping paper has become a thing of the past, at Xmas people by the large rolls from supermarkets etc. The desperation of card shops filling their shelves with soft toys and mugs was never going to save them for long and ask yourselves, how many people do you know who make their own cards from craft shops?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I buy all our routine greetings cards from the Scope shop in King St. Three for a quid and good quality. Electronic cards I always delete without reading as it's the easiest way for your PC to get infected.

add the rising costs of postage to the reasons given above and it is a recipe for disaster for the greeting card industry.
chris mentions receiving 100 electronic ones, would have cost around 60 quid if sent by post.

And a new hard drive if you click on a dodgy one.

I've never had a dodgy electronic card and we subscribe to the Jacquie Lawson e-cards.
All the (JL) cards we have sent, have been sent and received without any trouble whatsoever.
The Card Factory in Dover are always busy and are so much cheaper than Clintons.
I understood the staff have been told to Keep Calm and Carry On - for now.

clintons have not adapted to changing times, their mark ups are far too high as evidenced by roger's comment about their rivals.
i believe their are 8000 jobs at risk.

I also use the Card Factory, their cards are affordable and very good they are too, Clinton Cards are far too expensive, Briony & Saskia make their own cards for that personal touch or use Moon Pig on rare occasions.
I agree with you Howard, the Card Factory is always packed, its amazing that Clintons haven't dropped their massive mark up, it was just a matter of time before they liquidated.
That's the market for you. They priced themselves into receivership. the Card Factory is the one we use, and it always delivers, and is value for money.

I have always been surprised that Dover could support two card shops and, like others, have used the Card Factory.

Two words CARD FACTORY, why waste money in Clintons when Card Factory is so so so much cheaper for the same cards.

I always use the Card Factory, a good selection and cheap, I am ashamed to say I have never ever been in a Clinton shop anywhere.

I did use Clintons regularly...even young BB had a job in there one time, a part time job when she was younger in between studies kind of thing. Sad to see it go and sad to see people losing their jobs. I have to admit in recent times I've just slipped into 'buying cards at the supermarket' mode. You always forget there are consequences eleswhere when you do that.
Also the rise of Moonpig and that other one..name escapes fo the moment, who personlise cards for you in an instant, this seems to have caught on.
But another black hole in High St UK...8,000 job losses, mostly women too I expect. Women are not fairing well in the jobs market these days.
