22:3773999Do you know, Guzzler and Ian, that the name of our Crabble in Dover derives from crab-apple? They used to grow there many centuries ago.
Lately I've been tasting some delicious pear cider, made from finest pears of the west Country.
I'll see if I am free at the week-end to make it to Crabble.

Maybe its just possible that the forum members are non drinkers.

12:2874044The name Crabble derives from 'crab-hol' or 'crab-hole' (not sure of the variable spelling), due to the fact that crabs could be caught near the Cricketers when the Dour was still navigable that far upstream.
Stop sniggering at the back, there!
(PS: Two local booze-fests this weekend, by the way, the Crabble Mill one and an Oktoberfest at The Berry in Walmer)

17:2974081I can't get there tomorrow night, booked to be somewhere else before I realised the clash, but I'll be there Saturday, hope to meet a few of you for the first time and catch up with others I know. I'm also booked to go to a harvest festival supper on Saturday evening, that could be fun if I'm in the same state I was in last year, lips wouldn't work when my wife collected me
I've been busy making my own, 5 gallons of cider and two of grapes pressed over the last two days, here's a pic of my gear.

19:1874111Your picture reminded me of when my husband used to make home made wines. Apart from grape cherry, plum and orange were my favourites.
