Apologies for mentioning the X-word at this time of year, but does anyone know who is responsible for organising the Dover Christmas lights?

Thankyou, Howard. Someone of national renown has expressed an interest in doing the job.

It's usually the most famous person nobody has ever heard of. Let's have Aled Jones or Russell Watson with a massed choir. Now that might bring some people into the town. Yet another minor soap star ain't what we need so our hopes are pinned on you, Andrew.

Good idea Marek, Johnson Beharry VC would be good.

What a great idea! Another one might be the young guy who tackled the moron who stabbed the 14 year old schoolgirl recently or the councillor who rugby tackled the gunman in the RN submarine. Heroes, the lot of them.

have to disagree with the idea of a war hero doing the job.
we live in a celebrity obsessed society, very few would turn out for johnson beharry.
sad but a fact of life, bring on a soap star market square will be packed out.
How bloody depressing.

Thats Howard looking on the bright side of life as usual....I think one underestimates the feelings of a former garrison town

No way I am promoting Keiran Gaffney the Young drummer, born and bred in Dover and he came third in Britain's Got Talent.
I could ask my friend Howard to help out he is a Dovorian Michael Hogben, and I have got Mirium Margoyles home phone number as she is a visitor locally,Howard you might remember her as Nursey in Blackadder, youngsters will recall her as Prof Sprout from Harry Potter.
Or Shane Taylor who was in Band of Brothers or Jessica Mann an actress who lives in Tower Hamlets she been in Casulty. But could we afford him!
Knowing all these famous people I am going to plump for..........Posh Barry...

Sorry to interrupt the sneerfest ;-) but the person concerned is very well known, although not universally. Yet. Not in panto (yet). Can't say who it is Howard as it is only an idea at this stage, and would depend on both parties agreeing. Maybe DTC have someone better known in mind and of course it is very much their decision.
This person would definitely draw crowds though and maybe even give Dover Town Centre a bit of kudos.
(Andrew Stevens shoosh - you will easily guess it!).

i am intrigued now, andrew seems quietly confident.
the crowds are fairly large for the switch on and there seems to be two distinct groupings.
parents with young children who are normally in possession of something fluoresecent and teenagers with their mates.
it would have to be someone that would appeal to them as i don't think too many middle aged people would brave the usually cold weather to see someone that appealed to them.
