figures show that £65,000 was paid by k.c.c. last year in running their 4 cars.
most use was by the council chair, vic chair, the council leader paul carter and his deputy(stand in) alex king.
about a quarter of all county councillors used the cars, the main one being cllr bill hayton used the cars for 1123 hours.
drivers costs amounted to about half the figure.

at least that will save everyone some money, he cannot use the car then.
the argument is that councillors and senior officers can work while they are being driven around, something they cannot do when they are driving.

To be honest I don't have a problem with this at all. The cost is small beer in terms of the overall KCC budget and the availability of cars enables councillors and officers to do their jobs more effectively.
I have nothing but admiration for council leaders and cabinet members who work their socks off for very little reward.
And they don't always seek recognition for what they do. Recently one councillor acted rapidly to save the life of another who had a heart attack during a meeting. Using his training as a nurse he kept his colleague alive with CPR until paramedics arrived.
I have not seen that reported anywhere.
I'm an optimist. But I'm an optimist who takes my raincoat - Harold Wilson
Up to a point. I guess it may be about appearances and alternatives. And a well done to the person who acted so swiftly for a colleague, indeed.
Having said that, fair play to the guy and well done, but that doesn't impact the services delivered. That isn't detracting from his/her excellent behaviour, just commenting on the perspectives.

Exactly Peter - but the Press couldn't report it if they weren't advised about it.
A good guy saved and a good guy saving.
Roger
It is exactly the sort of stuff that needs to be leaked out - goodness knows they need the good press! And not to lose sight of the fact that a life was saved!

understand now i took it that it was k.c.c. not d.d.c.
the photo quiz is just a bit of fun, the actions of our council leader were deadly serious and highly laudable.
i am sure that he would not make a thing sbout it but the rest of us should.
