I have just read the following..........
"I'm Archie, a member of Canterbury Christ Church University's Making Politics Matter team and have an upcoming event which some of you may be interested in attending.
Charlotte Cornell is coming to the University to perform a public lecture titled: 'Turning the South East Red - One seat at a Time'. Charlotte is currently chief of staff to Rosie Duffield MP and is the Dover and Deal parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party.
The event will run between 6pm and 7pm, consisting of a talk and Q&A session and will take place in Old Sessions House CCCU.".....
My take on this is it would make more sense for Charlotte Cornell to hold her meeting in the area she hopes to represent. Only the already committed will bother to travel to Canterbury, maybe she thinks she would rather avoid confrontation and only waffle/talk to her supporters.

I read that too. It doesn't really smack of commitment to our area.

Odd that this is not in the politics forum but I will go with the flow.
Charlotte on Charles.
The Independent MP for Dover has just voted to cover up the impact that Universal Credit is having on Dover & Deal families and people who most need support.
This government has already admitted that 'some' people 'could be' worse off under Universal Credit, but the truth is that all our hard-working Labour councillors and campaigners in Dover & Deal know of many, many people and families who been plunged into real hardship by these changes. You don’t improve bad Government decisions by hiding the truth from the people you are paid to serve and represent. Mr Elphicke's decision to vote to hide papers relating to Universal Credit from the public is a disgrace.
Mr. Elphicke tries desperately to talk a good game, but the truth is he has voted consistently to take money away from people on both in and out-of-work benefits. You don’t make work pay by making working people worse off.

Trade unions met with her recently and at the end of it I can't say she impressed many
I'm still of the opinion that local Labour thinks it will just walk into indy M P's seat
He's not that silly and I'm sure fully prepared
Charlotte got stuck on a number of issues
Unions were looking to help those that require help but it appears Charlotte would just be critical of tories but if it meant actually standing up for those less able
She wouldn't
Labour locally appears to feel they will walk into the seat
They won't and I can see Charlotte being heavily disappointed at general election where I don't think Labour will do well at all
Just accepting the laws to be OK whilst people suffer isn't acceptable
At least challenging them would be a start
I asked a number of questions but really wasn't convinced of the answers
I also was critical of Labour local officials and some cllrs
Which in my opinion has to be where you build j Heron agreed
The other Labour cllr didn't say a word all night and supposed to represent priory
Didn't even defend herself
Charlie must be laughing

It's not the first own goal she has made
There is no sense at all holding a public meeting outside the constituency
And a lot more benefit holding one in Dover
Certainly some of her views at a recent meeting will hold her back from winning Dover
She is without doubt very bubbly
But being bubbly doesn't win seats

I am not sure whether Charlotte realises how hard it will be, if as expected, Charlie stands as a Tory. The last Labour MP for Dover and his inactions makes it difficult for anyone to topple Charlie who has built up solid support. The candidate in 2015 was enthusiastic but was not knowledgeable about much preferring instead to focus on her family history down the pits. In 2017 the campaign was in full swing before they chose a candidate which gave them very little chance of success. Discriminating against 50% of the population doesn't help to get the best candidate also.
Does anyone know when the boundary changes take effect?

It will years before the next General Election. I'm not sure that the boundary changes have been fully ratified yet, Howard.

Howard
The last letter I saw was that the wards are now all agreed and will come into being in May elections
Rather sad both main political parties supported tearing apart the priory ward
Losing its identity
Of course this could also affect funding

Hi Paul
Unless I'm reading it incorrectly
There is an ongoing parliamentary consultation going on to reduce the number of MPs
As your aware there is also the proposal to reduce the number of cllrs on DDC
If I'm reading this correctly this is now with
Parliament and if agreed will be introduced at next May's elections

Charlotte Sometimes Cornwall. Charlotte Sometimes Cornell. Surely there's a Cure for this?
Anyway, since the event's organised by CCCU's Making Politics Matter team, it's hardly surprising that it's being held at that University. John Bercow, Tim Farron and even Nigel Farage have rolled up there. It would be an odd restriction were any candidate to be disbarred from speaking on a political topic at a public meeting outwith their own constituency. When Dover gets its HEI I'm certain it'll host similar events.

Forgive my ignorance but what does HEI stand for?
My guess is Higher Education Institution but it seems to be an acronym for several things including Healthcare Environment Inspectorate.
If it is the former does Kent College no longer count as a HEI?

I know that the Boundaries commission decide on where constituencies start and finish but not sure who decides on wards. We know that DDC voted for less councillors but who decides on the new wards?

Correct JH. And Kent College was never one.
As for nail painting, I'm sure even that would be too high an education for some.
