16:3776737A real shame. Fair play to the proprietors for trying, and for showing some real enterprise. I hope they pick up the pieces.
The shameful ongoing dereliction of the Bench Street area plus the choked lorry artery of DHB Townwall Freeway in the vicinity can't have helped, though.

17:4776744been there twice, excellent value for money, both barry and colin are right on this one.
a) the footfall in the evenings and off season is minimal.
b) they did seem to open and close at a whim.

05:5576813Andrew, you are right; when you sit in the Carpathian and look across the road it is an utter disgrace and would put anyone off - these kind of things are never considered when rates (and rent) are calculated (state of the local area and the surrounding dereliction).
I understand there are plans being prepared for that area, but how far away in terms of delivery, I have no idea.

08:2876819Ive been to the establishment three maybe four times but I have to admit it was a while ago. Ive never been there as part of the recent Hungarian experience Im sad to say, although I meant to go. My daughter for example always prefers the big chains so one tends to go with what she wants as it were...to go with the flow...most of the time anyway. But as Roger often says, it again is a case of use it or lose it. And we've lost it.
As was said earlier they seemed to do a good lunchtime trade but I suspect the evenings were a killer.

09:4677041There have been plans for that area for 36 years, since The Crypt (aka 'The Gap') burnt down.
Don't hold your breath, Roger.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but hey!

07:0377180These are recent plans Andrew, being worked on with DDC Planning officers.
There are an increasing number of people (developers) interested in Dover; David H. sometimes gets them, but probably can't say because of client confidentiality.
These won't help the Carpathian owners though - sadly.
As PaulB said above, many people are drawn to the chains, like Marine Court, Wetherspoons, Duke of York and now the Kittiwake.
For the same kind of price you can have a great meal at Blakes and the White Horse.
