Anyone know anything about the carnival on Sunday? There seems to be an information vacuum, even their own website does not list it. We are hoping to walk along but am not even sure where and when it starts.

They have the usual carnival road signs out at Charlton Green if that helps.

Well I saw a road closure sign up for Sunday evening so something must be happening. There is nothing on their own website, Facebook, DTC or DDC sites. Puzzled.

The Mercury says it meets at Russell Street carpark at 4pm, judging at 5pm and parade starts at 6pm

Just seen this elsewhere............
"For all those in and around Dover, today there is a Dickens Festival in Pencester Gardens (from 10:00am to 4:00pm) and on Sunday there will be a torchlight parade from 6:00pm, starting at Russell Street carpark, going down Castle Street, across Market Square, up the High Street to The Eagle ph, down Bridge Street and then back along Maison Dieu Road."

Unfortunately as I understand it (and remember I have nothing to do with the organising or such like) last Friday, 28th September, a letter arrived from DDC saying that the carnival could not go ahead on 7th October. I can confirm that as I have seen the letter. Then on Tuesday 2nd October they changed their minds and decided it could go ahead which left it more than a bit late for proper advertising. Because of the cloudy start to Saturday it appears that the ten carnival courts decided not to risk going to Pencester to set up stalls. Age Concern did turn up but then left again. All I can really say on Saturday is that, once the music started, they had fun and the young couple from Dover Youth Theatre did an excellent job on the film standards.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Sorry Chris, it was not DDC who decided the Carnival could not go ahead & changed their minds it was the Police & Kent Highways. DDC just co-ordinate the events meeting & sent out the letters.
You probably know that!!

All I knew about the carnival was the road signs advertising closures. Didn't know anything about a Dickens Festival.
