IMPACT STATEMENT AND EVALUATION OF THE PROPOSAL
"The erection of the blue plaque will enlarge and give overdue and lasting recognition of the astonishing number of merits of an immensely history rich house to its present owner and of course to its future owners.

It will enhance to a high degree the prestige, history and interest of the building to the many tourists and overseas visitors who pass by to and from the castle, let alone the local residents and citizens of Dover whose history this building encapsulates. It will have negligible impact on the building itself,in fact quite the reverse, and will honour and adorn it. The plaque will encourage more visitors to the town and castle. In particular it will after a century of negligence to the fact provide a lasting memorial to the Knocker family who as three generations of town clerks,in particular Sir Edward Wollaston Knocker who was knighted for his services, formed and created the basis of and for the creation of the foundations of the Dover that we live in today. The indebtedness which Dover owes to this family is incalculable and this expression of the fact will salute them publicly and posthumously at long last. "

Thank you, Button! Indeed, the hypocrisy of it all is astounding! Thanks for pointing this out. It would be very interesting if DDC would refuse the Blue Plaque application by The Dover Society.
