WOW, I bet there are quite a few members of this forum that would like this topic to be dropped and "move on". I recon quite a few of those are also members of the DDC's Planning Committee or their close friends, eh?

On a serious note, Dover needs to change to be more enlightened about protecting and nurturing its environment and historic assets. Dover’s future prosperity lies in tourism, not in the port - the port is a bonus, not the be-all-and-end-all of the Dover economy. The new Lonely Planet report shows that Dover needs to capitalise now, not squander this great chance! A car wash in conservation area next to Dover’s most important residential building is not an asset to Dover. Why are we allowing this eyesore to confront every visitor walking from the town centre or the beach to the Castle, every cruise ship passenger that passes directly in front of the car wash, or as they are driven from the cruise terminal to the Castle by bus? One has to remember, the car wash can move, the car wash operators do not own the site, and the car wash is not site-specific. The Castle, the conservation area and the listed buildings cannot move.

Do you see any car washes in the historic heart of Deal or Canterbury?
