The below information should ring very loud alarm bells to the people of Dover, especially those in Castle Ward. A group of local residents, including myself, have been for some time very concerned about what’s been going on at the controversial Ramyar car wash operation located on Maison Dieu Road, since the car wash re-opened in March 2020. As many of you might already be aware, since its opening the car wash has been a danger to both highways and public safety, due to Mr Pishtiwan Karim, the business operator, daily refusing to adhere to multiple planning conditions, health & safety guidelines and environmental laws the car wash is obligated to operate under, including Condition 5 specifically suggested to be added by Kent Highways “in the interest of highways safety”. It is really only a matter of time until someone gets seriously injured or killed, as simple as that.

But another very worrying and concerning public safety issue that has been present on the site since planning permission was first granted back in 2014 and that we have reported to DDC numerous times and which they have chosen to turn a blind eye to, is that of a danger to the public and the environment by the contaminated toxic spray and foul water slurry runoff produced by the washing of vehicles on the site.

We were so worried about the dangers to our health, the health of the public and the local environment, that DDC was doing nothing to protect, that we commissioned at our own expense an independent chemical analysis of the toxic foul water slurry being produced by the operation of washing vehicles at Ramyar car wash. We’ve just received the lab report from SOCOTEC that confirms our fears that the site operation producers toxic waste that contains HAZARDOUS quantities of HP7 (Carcinogenic) and HP 11 (Mutagenic) elements and should be treated as such.

We can now irrefutably prove that this site is a matter of danger to public health and the environment by way of hazardous waste via CARCINOGENIC and MUTAGENIC * spray and foul water slurry produced by the washing of vehicles on the site. We can now prove this without dispute.
    * Everyone is aware of Carcinogenic substances being the cause of cancer, For those who are not familiar with the terms “Mutagenic” - the definition of HP 11: Mutagenic is "waste which may cause a mutation, that is a permanent change in the amount or structure of the genetic material in a cell. May cause genetic defects”.

So in layman’s terms, anyone who lives within close vicinity to Ramyar car wash, walks passed the car wash on a regular basis, or works at Ramyar (very young lads from the looks of it) is in direct danger of developing cancer or genetic defects related conditions.

By law this hazardous waste must be disposed of in a safe and regulated way. This is NOT happening on the Ramyar Car Wash site, and DDC know this but allow without question, again endangering both public health, car wash employees’ health and the environment.

All anyone has to do is walk past the site to see contaminated foam overflowing out of the slip drain onto the public footpath and over the site. This site and its drainage system was never built to take the volumes of foul hazardous waste coming across it daily and has not been adapted to meet requirements pertaining to the legal dispose of hazardous waste since being granted planning permission. The tarmac is now so degraded and absorbent that the hazardous waste has nothing to stop it from now seeping into the ground endangering the environment by polluting the ground water table.

I had a call yesterday from Countrystyle Recycling, the company that removes rubbish from the Ramyar Car Wash, who are taking this matter so seriously that they have suspended waste collection from the site indefinitely until Mr P. Karim has made adequate drainage arrangements for the capture and disposal of the hazardous waste produced by the car wash operation. They did this after Mr P. Karim on numerous occasions had allowed hazardous toxic slurry waste to be deposited of in the Non-hazardous waste bin supplied by Countrystyle Recycling.

We have also consulted with a highly respected Hydrologist who was for one absolutely flabbergasted why the site was ever given planning permission in the first place without the corrected drainage system and storage system for hazardous waste being in place and, secondly, why does DDC knowingly allow this health and environmental danger carry on unchecked to date.
