    Were the French to 'tear up' the Le Touquet treaty it would still remain in place for a further two years.

    At that point, with no border control between themselves and the boats, Calais would be absolutely swamped with migrants attempting to get on board ferries.

    It would be an absolute nightmare for the French authorities and the carrying companies and politically very difficult for the French who would have the CRS on permanent patrol trying to stop people leaving the country with comparisons made with East Germany and the Berlin wall.

    Off the record they much prefer blaming things on the Brits (just as we enjoy blaming things on the French!)
