  Barry says that every single Labour government we have had has failed in economic disaster, which I think is true.
  
  Unfortunately, the last Conservative government also failed the same way. John Major and Norman Lamont shovelled countless billions of our money down the pan trying to support the pound and stay in the European Exchange Rate Mechanism. We were forced out of the ERM on Black Wednesday 1992 and the Conservatives lost their reputation for economic competence and lost the next election.
  
  Now we have had donkeys years of Prudence Brown as Chancellor and PM telling us that the days of boom and bust were over and that his was a steady hand on the tiller. This has all disintegrated in spectacular style and he is now a last chance Mississippi river boat gambler borrowing vast sums to throw in all directions and putting the country in hock for generations to come.
  
  Neither party seems to offer much of an alternative and I would not trust either of them with the contents of my piggy bank. The rest of the world seems to run rings around us.
