14:2092492all seems to have gone quiet on this subject, maybe not too surprising in these cash strapped times.
i notice that d.d.c are considering making available part of the council's landholdings for the positioning of two towers to aid this project.
gong to scrutiny soon if it hasn't already.

15:1092496Quiet but not gone Howard.
It happens to be on DHB land so you will understand time factors are down to their timetable & agreements.
No, it won't be funded by DDC.

15:3892503Don't care who funds don't want it in bad weather it wont run, a noddy train running around dover to the cruise Term, Prince of wales pier along the sea front and the town center and station then up to the castle would be better and if the castle is closing most weekdays it wont pay for its self.

15:3892504Not that I know Howard. Scrutiny is not my perview.
EH are only providing the platform [landing base] at the Castle & desire to recive the custom.
This has to be a commercially funded & maintained operation although part of a bigger project.

21:0892535the current business climate suggests that nothing will go ahead for a while.
paul
if english heritage are paying for the drop off at the castle, who will pay for the starting points downhill?

05:1692543Much the same with the regeneration of Dover I see a new car and van hire place opened on the lower road St James near the white horse so nothing going to be done there

08:0692549There never was Alan; although opposite it is the old MFI site site owned by Lidl and that's in the process of being demolished, then it will be the turn of the Britannia.
Slowly, but surely, it is still moving forwards.

08:2792555No Brian, it's an integral part of the DTIZ, in preparation for when the building work starts; you can't build a new development area in Town if you haven't knocked down the old, unnecessary buildings first - can you ?

09:5592562Yes Alan the new van hire development along Maison Dieu is just opposite the old MFI building and its looking good. They (CMW?) have spent a lot of time and money on it as Ive seen them transform it from dereliction to pristine. I dont think its actually opened yet as they were still working on it the other day, but they seem to be doing a good job in readying the place. It looks a professional outfit too. Good to see a new business risking all here in Dover...especially in mid slump.
I dont accept though Roger that demolishing a few places smacks of progress. Almost everywhere can demolish...its seeing something rising from the ashes that shows progress.
The castle people were/are very serious about the Cable Car. I though it was something of an April joke until I attended a function up there at the Castle a while back and they were talking in very serious terms about it. It was real. Those days they were talking about connecting with the town more ( not happening!) But as PauliW says above there the finance for the project would have to come from elsewhere...not EH. As we can see from the recent closures they are short of the readies...or so it seems.

10:0792563Alan,
Noddy Train is a great idea, using it to link town to seafront, would solve one problem that Dover has.

10:4592566Agree with Alan. I have already suggested something like this. The cable car project was going to cost £3.5 million just for the feasibility study! Thank goodness I shall be out of The Gateway before I have a cable car swinging past my bedroom window. However, living as I do on the 9th floor, I am well aware of the winds that would make it extremely hazardous. I do not understand why the powers that be think it would be a viable project. Do they really think that tourists in their thousands (or even hundreds) are going to hop off the ferry in the Eastern Docks and then say, lets pop along to the other end and have a quick trip on the cable car? It will be a project like the White Cliffs Experience - no doubt award-winning at first and after a few years dead in the water (or air!).

10:4992567the plan seems to be about luring cruise passengers to the town and castle.
cable cars are always popular wherever you go, though i do not see it happening with the current financial climate.

There's about 8 threads going back 12 years regarding the cable car, so I'll use this one.
It appears it hasn't gone away

Got to hand it to DDC
I mean, yes the country is facing mass unemployment and a public health crisis but they are focused on dishing out money to pie in the sky.

I would like to see a footpath along the road to join the path from the Bleriot memorial to the White Cliffs. It is a relatively short stretch and would mean an easy, safe walk between our two main attractions.

This is going to be DDC's very own Garden Bridge scandal. Millions wasted and the only thing to show being 'consultants' fat wallets.
