martin, its just not aycliffe roundabout its the whole streatch from folkestone to the docks.and apart from that dhb know in advance that the docks fill up quickly,so if they contacted kent police well in advance the road wouldnt bloke up,thats a lack of conmunication.and its been going on since they put the road through.

How would they prevent it blocking Brian?

by putting stack in early, and sending 50 veicles down every half a hour.or a more costly way by putting a custom/imigration/check in some where between asford and folkestone.

Stack is for Freight, not tourist traffic, no immigration or Customs checks in Dover for French bound traffic, there are PAF checks but doubt very much they could operate anywhere but within the confines of the Port. It is a pain for everybody involved in it, the only way to control it would be to have a large amount of police officers ready to be deployed every time there is a snarl up but as it becoming harder and harder for them to police the county to a minimum standard that can not happen.

The candidates for the Police Commissioner will be canvassing for your votes, see what they think about the situation or even if they know it exists, make them earn your vote.

Watched the traffic carefully this weekend. Huge volumes early in the mornings everyday. When you consider that all that traffic is coming to a dead stop at the Port it all seems to work relatively well...well kind of. Loading and loading is mesmerisingly fast but it is still a naturally obvious dead end with the resultant backlog. I dont think it is possible to find a total solution.
What happens is that everyone tries to get away first thing. Understandable, but the roads are much much freer in the afternoons, or so it seems from my viewpoint here. Huge volume = mornings. Less volume = afternoons.
If travellers were aware of that they could perhaps stagger it sensibly themselves.
Even the hotels here empty out in the mornings with all heading Portwards. In the afternoons dead quiet.
Yes good point Martin about bending the ear of the Police Commissioner candidates.

Brian I think your post #25 has hit the nail on the head. Nothing to do with communication between DHB and Police, it's all about resources. Martin raises a valid point but you cAnnot justify a set of Officers on standby 'just in case'. Compared to what it used to be like the traffic does not back up that often.
PaulB you are right. Bank holiday weekends always see busy tourist traffic in the morning. Unfortunately the lorries get caught up in it and end up backing up.

helen t,the lack of communication part comes in when the port starts filling up and then backs up the a20,if dhb contacts the police early enough the a20 wouldnt get blocked.
helen t,here is a qoute from bob goldfinger, and i qoute,"the dock traffic isnt our problem untill it enters the docks boundry."un qoute.

Brian I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I still believe it is a matter of resources and that communication between both parties is very good. We cannot base our judgement on one comment but merely on facts we know. We must know different facts.
Still alls well that ends well. We've only had one back up this busy weekend

I often wonder why the traffic police do not monitor the road by remote camera, problems could then be sorted earlier rather than later.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
