Well it happened, the Koran got burned and the Muslim world is going mad.
What the hell is going on? If a neighbor burnt the bible in the garden next door I'd play up hell cos we have washing out.
Oh dear this is just the start of it.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.

We had a large thread didnt we on the right wing pastor Terry Jones a while back. He held the world to ransom over his huge publicity seeking burning of the Koran. Everybody everywhere with the exception of himself, knew that doing such a thing as a publicity stunt would cost lives.
He was eventually talked out of it by the very very top brass in Washington giving guarantees that he would never even contemplate doing it again.
But the need for publicity, the need for the adrenaline and the buzz associated with publicity took hold and he went and did it last week anyway. But because this man is darkly addicted to the limelight he had to do it. There can be nothing so empty for these types as the life experienced once the media cameras move on.
And now a large number of UN personnel have lost there lives as a result. We said this would happen on this Forum and it has.
In the Arab world they dont understood us fully in the West, much the same way as we dont fully understand them.
What makes it disturbing to the Arab nations is that they think this Terry Jones guy is a man of God, a Christian man of our Western God...which is unfortunate, as this guy is no such thing, being nothing more than an extreme right wing political bigot.

Agree with you Barry. This idiot states the death of the UN Personnel is not of his doing; of course it is he has as much blood on his hands as those that carried out the barbaric killings. I just hope there is a way the families of those that were murdered can take him to court for his actions in starting the violence. I doubt it though.
How can we ever engage with a people whose ordinary citizens think that beheading someone is an appropriate response to a book burning?

I don't know Bern after reading endless pages of Vic's life story beheading seemed fairly reasonable even if a little bit tame
Oh by the way I burnt my computer..

That is quite true Bern but that does not excuse that man. He and the beheaders may have different beliefs but they are soul-mates.

So much care was taken here and in the US not to give this book-burning episode the publicity this pastor craved however little seems to have been done to warn those at the coal-face to expect a violent reaction.
What with the competition to sell advertising space and newspapers...it's an ill-wind...

Any religion, like any political creed, that is not open to disagreement or prepared to listen to contrary opinions is very insecure in its own theories.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Yes to us it is just a book, to these extremists it is far more and of course to us burning a book in a free Country is not a crime. However this idiot knew that this act of burning the Koran would start valence, he is just as much an extremist and by his actions is as responsible as those that committed these barbaric murders.

sounds like the extremists have used this as an excuse to wind up their populations to take this action.
jones needs to be locked up indefinitely though.
all seems rather one sided, people can burn the poppy a symbol of remembrance of the dead and get off with a 50 quid fine.
Chris is right of course. These people live in a different world mostly in an information vaccum where rummour is quick to take hold and soon becomes realitly to them- their reaction is difficult for us to comprehend. Very sad.
True - it is easy to forget that many people in those regions live in what we would view as medieval times. Easy to manipulate people if they have no information or education.

Far too heavy a subject for a hot spring day. Off for a walk along the seafront to blast the cobwebs out.
