After approximately 8months the birthing unit at Buckland Hospital is to close. My prediction was 90% correct as I didn't expect it to reopen at all albeit even temporarily.
Now I challenge Charlie to answer this question:-
Is the minor injuries to remain open or is there a hidden agenda whereby that it is going to close, possibly with the excuse that there is a lack of staff.
and part2 work on any new hospital is shelved until 2012, is this work likely to take place?
The people of Dover deserve to know what is going on regarding the hospital and Mr. Elphicke you need to be 100% honest in your reply should you respond.

At 8 months, it's a little premature.
Have you written to him direct Dave ? - not sure if he reads the Forum.

birthing unit closing
waited 8 months
shouldnt he have waited 9 months lol
anyway on a more serious note
all parties have attempted to use the hospital as a political football thus we see the mess we are in at the moment.
we all want to see a thriving buckland hospital and as many services as possibles provided there

The glaring fact is that the now pompously named "university" trust don't want Buckland. It's a pain in the backside to them. They just want the three main hospitals. The fact that they they are all overstretched and can't cope with the volume is ignored.
The former C.E. consistently lied about the future of Buckland, as Bern puts it, plus ca change!

yes we have been let down by politicians from all sides, and people within the N.H.S. On the top of the tree fighting for bucklands future.
i recall attending a meeting some time ago where the leading light for dover trust was as good as saying resources should go to the other hospitals and buckland should be scaled down.
although there may or may not be a case for this
what we need is honest up front people telling us in all honesty what they want and can achieve for buckland

had a sinking feeling about buckland for some time. i don't understand why they opened the birthing unit in january then close it 8 months later.
that costs money whenthe n.h.s. are pleading poverty.
we also know that the planning application has been delayed for the "new" hospital.

Howard, your second point shows why the NHS is short of money, poor management.

my boy went in with an ear infection, the doctor involved
1; didnt find any infection
2; couldnt find the equipment to deal with him
3; suggested he yawned to clear his ears!!!
honestly i nearly fell off the chair
next day at the doctrors
1l had equiupment
2; dealt with my boy
3; found the infectiuon
4; dealt with it
5; boy ok now

i want(as many others do) a hospital that can cater for the local population and as many services as possible and hope our leading lights dont give up the fight
but also get rid of ego's and concentrate on the task ahead

keith sums it up in post 15, if egos and personalities had not got in the way we would have a hospital close to completion by now.
i suspect that if a planning application ever does come in there will be a stack of objections.
