The NHS is NOT a failed system but it could do with a shake-up, nothing is ever as perfect as it could be there is nearly always room for improvement.

This should give Reg apoplexy, outsourcing of some services is already happening in Dover.
Instead of travelling to Ashford, Canterbury or Margate for a consultant appointment you get it at the Health Centre.

Jan - the NHS is failing and the healthcare it provides is not up to the standards of the best. This is a problem with they system and is not a reflection on dedicated staff.
We need to do away with the NHS and bring in a European style insurance based system.

but only for those who can afford it barry, that will then lead to many with little or no health care at all.

#25 Rubbish Brian. As someone so in love with the EU you should find out about the insurance based systems there before posting.

You will therefore have noticed that the better systems, such as those in France and Germany, are insurance-based with mainly private providers. You will also have noticed that patients who can afford it have to make a contribution towards the cost.
Nobody has ever explained to me why healthcare and education should be totally free to those who can well afford to pay. I think that is a bigger issue than taxation of the rich. Why do we provide free services to the wealthy? Answers on a postcard please.

#32, Vic: A curate living in lodgings was given an egg for breakfast by his landlady which was well past its sell-by date. Unable to eat more than half of it, and not wishing to offend her, when his hostess asked 'How was your egg?', he replied that it was good in parts.

#33, I might start a thread on that subject, Reg. On the other hand, I really can't be arsed, as I know how everyone will line up on the topic.

How many of you have gone to the Drs or Hos/got good treatment come away without thinking anymore about,I would say90% of you,you do think about the cost of the treatment or all the work done to treat you,and none of you would think about cost of Hos/wast and how much it all cost to get rid of it or how that is done.We do very well out of it its not100% but it is good the training of the staff is good and costy.I would like to see the end of contractors cleaning.Anyway I will stop there.

we talk a lot about an insurance based system but there is no support for it from the people that matter.
the forthcoming changes look good under a brief inspection in that there will be more local decision making but we know nothing about how this will affect dover district which is the reason for this thread.

38, Howard that's because the NHS is a sacred cow, originally of the left, but now of all politicians.
