so (if true) the UK collects illegal immigrants from French waters
At the same time it has been holding and returning legitimate travellers from the EU at the border
Suggests to me the main issue with migration/freedom of movement was, and still is, incompetent government

The government is terrified of the courts and the courts are the first resort of the asylum seekers.

When they see these pictures the useless or should that be crafty French must be clapping their hands and saying "good that got rid of another lot".
The other day I read the RNLI were getting abuse for helping to rescue those in these boats, but what are they supposed to do ignore them and watch people drown which is completely against their ethos.

Jan, I am not sure the word is crafty more like sensible.
Perhaps if we stopped putting them in 4 star hotels and putting them at the front of the benefit and housing queue then they would stop coming.

How disappointed they must be

All covered in previous boat people thread, including the usual suspects who implied that leaving the Dublin Agreement wouldn't make any difference!
How many did we return before we left the EU? And how many have we returned since?

Quote from BBC link: The government has authorised the Border Force to turn away boats - but only in limited circumstances and if Home Secretary Priti Patel personally approves each caseUnquote.
Not going to happen on 2 obvious counts:
1. Unless Priti Patel is manning a border force boat how long will it take get her approval?
2. Just the threat of throwing a baby/ child overboard by the immigrants will stop any attempt to turn a dinghy back.

Same subject, same BS. Total inability to face up to the consequences of their own actions.
Last year the Home Office said that after Brexit transition, the UK "will be able to negotiate its own bilateral returns arrangements" with EU member states. You'll hear precious little about that now.
Just more utter garbage for the gullible.
