That is the trouble the boats are obviously seaworthy, the problem is the large number of people in them.
Maybe we should allow these immigrants/illegals access to the ferries, then put them straight into a form of prison camp where they can work to earn their keep while their immigration status is scrutinised. This would at least stop the criminal gangs making so much money from these illegals.
Another alternative if their paperwork is not correct would be to actually send them straight back to France or their country of origin as we used to do regardless of how they arrive as Ross said.
