Well done with the pictures Phil, lovely to see them.
On one snowy day recently I saw the Heron in the stream at Pencester Gardens. it looked magnificent. Ive seen the Heron before in roughly the same spot. Needless to say I didnt have a camera but a great sight.

Loads of sparrows in our hedgerow the last few days, chirping away, and flying about left right and centre. Is it the mating season does any one know?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

A couple more unusual birds up Barton Path this afternoon for you. This time it's a Water Rail - very small and secretive - and a small duck which I was told was a female Teal.

Lovely pictures Phil, and the middle one looks like a painting with those colours.

Not so sure that Teals (of either sex) are unusual, Phil! Great shots of the Rail.....

True friends stab you in the front.

maybe we should give it a nick name like "cyrano de bergerac", the picture does remind me of him.

Thanks for the nice comments. I had no idea what a Teal was before I was told - essentially just a very small duck!
Here are three more for you. Our grey heron up Barton Path yesterday and the little egret outside Morrisons this afternoon.

Thank you Phil for the lovely photos of birds. I saw an egret in the
Dour down by Castle Street about 3 years ago but none since. However, we do have a buzzard around down here by the sea. We saw it take a baby seagull last summer and have seen it a couple of times since. I have not seen buzzards in Dover before. As for kingfishers, we spent one glorious evening on Bridge Broad near Wroxham watching 3 pairs flying round and round.

Nice photos Phil well done.
I could kick myself today as I spotted a rarity for these parts and no camera.
A night Heron down by Beaconsfield Bridge.
Look very carefully Phil as they don't move during the day and where there is one you may find 6 or more.
They are about the size of the Egret but a bit bigger built. colours similar to the grey heron. If you see it you will know it straight away. Good luck.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.

we have had quite a few Kingfisher's in the car park by Jollye's at the tail end of last year, including a baby that someone found in the bushes, and then let it go in the main car park area. unfortunately it flew into a car, luckily one of our customer's is a local wild life expert who we rang the little chap survived and was released in a more suitable place. Looking forward to seeing the little egret's again this year.
A dog is just not for christmas save some for boxing day

Thanks ever so much for the tip Ian. I had never heard of a Night Heron before - but now that you have seen one I'll keep an eye out, thanks. They really are quite a striking bird according to the pictures in my RSPB bible.
I've now seen two kingfishers at Barton Path plus others at Bushy Ruff, Crabble Mill and the back of de Bradelei Wharf of all places, so there must be a sizeable population hidden away.

Nothing to add here really, but this nice Bird post didn`t look very appropriate under my Get rid of the pigeons post.
