or not as the case may be this was taken three weeks ago in pencester gardens.
if it was damaged they are taking a long time to repair it.
maybe benches will go the same way as the bins?

Hi Paul
I am not a member of Dover Forum.
I have just seen a thread starting about the bench in Pencester Park.
I just wanted you to know that the bench has been a continual nuisance for some years and recently unbearable. We have involved councillors and Dover District Council in an effort to get this bench removed. The Police have had a heavy input into monitoring the site and have been very helpful. Residents reported daily incidents and the Police have had an increased presence in the park. We have had to put up with drunks, drugs, all day, any time through the night. It has become impossible to get a nights sleep without interruption. When challenged the abuse received is upsetting. There have also been other issues.
The bench has now gone and we do not want to see a replacement. All we ever asked was that the bench be removed further down the park. However, we are pleased it has gone and hope Dover Forum do not start a campaign to have it replaced as your members do not live with it under their window.
I just wanted to put you in the picture as when I saw the thread very recent, bad memories surfaced!
Kind regards
Chris

I do understand the views of chris, but this is another example of giving in to vandals, druggies etc.
surely we should try to get to the root of the problem rather than remove a bench in the hope it will go away which it probably wont.

thanks for that chris, i would certainly not like to suffer from the behaviour described.
in the bigger picture there are less benches in the town than there were a few years ago i suspect that more will go in the future.
on that stretch you refer to there are only about 3 or 4 benches, so surely the bench could have been moved further towards pencester road?

so we take all the benches away everywhere
giving in to the vandals till there are none left for all our law abiding people
sad state of affairs me finks

howard, the trouble is no matter where you put benches in that park it's near housing where people live,so in short the nuisance will not go away.

As Brian put it fair do's Chris.
A bloody disgrace that the many suffer for the few.
Do you move a bench or do you move the problem?
The easy way out is to move the bench, I know what I would do.
I'll stay out of the put the bench back campaign and leave the residents to hopefully some good nights sleep.

howard;
in my times of passing pencester or walking through the gardens, it appears to have a fairly high number of people that are drunk very early in the morning.
these numbers later in the day and in the sunny weather bring out even more, often they do become very intimidating.

More Police on the beat? I know typical Marek.. radical leftwing northern sarcastic git type comment.
The town and seafront in St Helier are awash with benches and used fully by tourists and office workers alike but there are at least 2 Bobbies on the beat from 7am onwards ,stopping cyclists and generally being present therefore acting as a deterrant to any would be carlsberg dog on a rope types loitering in town. Pubs open at 9am til late most evenings.

Howard sweetheart, I know there is not a put back the bench campaign.
I thought I would kick it straight into touch before someone did, I'm only human you know.

as you called me sweetheart that is o.k. then ian.
getting back to the problem, chris states that the council and police have done their bit and attended incidents.
have any fines been handed out or charges brought, that normally means that the problem does not reoccur.
i have seen a couple of times police officers pouring the contents of bottles and cans away.
