    Bargains galore in theatre sale

EVERYTHING from glitter balls to office furniture is up for grabs in a Marlowe Theatre sale on Saturday, March 28.

The building has to be emptied before work on the £25.6 million development can start in May. Staff will take some items with them when they move to the Visitor Information Centre during the closure and other things have been put into storage - but everything else has to go.

The sale starts at 11am on the theatre forecourt, or, if it is raining, in the café bar. Goods - including signed star photos, posters, programmes, signs from around the building, auditorium seats and other furniture and even Christmas decorations and confectionery - will be laid out on tables.

The theatre's head of operations, Paula Gillespie, recommended that people interesting in buying anything should arrive on time. "We are expecting a great response," she said. "It all has to go and so we will be accepting any reasonable offer!"

Sale-goers will also be able to buy a piece of Marlowe Theatre history in the form of a small section of the stage encased in a clear resin box. There are two sizes of this limited edition keepsake and they are priced £19.84 and £45 each.

Money raised from the sale will go towards buying equipment for the new building, which is due to open in September, 2011.
