22:0484152it has been announced today that workers at the heinz factory in wigan are going on strike for the first time.
maybe this action is what politicians are talking about when they refer to "the wind of change"?

22:3884160Howard, you mean Heinz baked beans are actually still produced in this country? Does Brussel`s know about this? I`m sure they wouldn`t be very happy at finding out we British are still hanging on to some of our historical branded product`s. (Took that on 23 December last year Vic).

07:2284171Good picture there Colin, yes I too have pictures of baked bean cans somewhere. This is idolatory on a grand scale.
But let me issue a terror bit of information for those addicted to the humble bean ( myself included). AS a result of this strike there will be 2million fewer cans available in the shops. This is awful news. I kid you not. Shock Horror!!
My advice is to stockpile now!!
Vic yes there was indeed a big thread on beans. Dont forget we have a 'search engine' on our centre anchor page top right..that will find any thread for you.

09:2184179I must admit I am not a plain baked bean fan but I would miss my curried beans, Morrisons ran out of them once and which was awful as I could not build my stock up. I will start stock piling tomorrow.

09:2184180Sorry to disappoint you all but Henry J Heinz was an American and he invented his beans in tomato sauce in Philadelphia.

17:1784224Baked Beans may be canned in the UK but I feel certain all the beans are grown in USA.
In recent years, I think, Monsanto (who develop GM crops) have been trying to develop the British (Baked) Bean for canning.

Without using any bad language Vic, what were those beans like that I saw you buying the other day. To my mind they are awful, not a patch on own brands let alone Heinz.
