15:2375891 Bushey Ruff at lunchtime today, and despite feeling warm in the sunshine, I had the place to myself. Nice to get out after being stuck in for a few days. Well into Autumn now. Anyone else got a local place to escape to and unwind?

15:4075896Samphire Hoe, Colin - even when there are people there it is possible to fade into the background and just stare at the sea. Staring at the sea does it for me.
Lovely pics again, by the way - thank you!

16:0175901Lovely Colin.
I'm lucky and live next door to a beautiful nature reserve, a walk around there usually does the trick.

17:0675910I love the sea too Bern, and must admit I often forget about Samphire Hoe. I went past there on the train last month, and there were cows and sheep grazing. A very eco freindly way of getting the grass cut. Howard, I did have a robin, but it was pictured where it shouldn`t be, though it flew in through the doorway. I can`t post the picture. Jeane lovely picture, lots of swans out Kearsney abbey at the moment. I`m trying to think of the ballet it reminds me of. And Terry, my walking varies enormously. Sometimes I`ll walk from Whitfield to town and home, or go along the sea front for a walk, and wind up in St Margarets Bay. I never plan anything, just out the door and wherever the road takes me. So much to see on foot, (and the bus).

17:1275913As you know Colin I get away from it all by feeding the swans and ducks over there and feeding the ponys at the bay ,I have been doing both now for over 16years and still love doing it they all know me when I call them.

17:2175918i don't know about the ponies at the bay vic, but there are signs all over the western heights not to feed the konik ponies.
the ponies seem unaware of this restriction and will accept copious quantities of carrots from anyone that offers them.

17:3875919it is what you feed them that matters,as I said the ponys i feed get the very best and you must cut it even carrots.I know nothing about the ponys up at the western hights only that it is nice to see him up here.
The N/Trust know that I have been doing it for years and at times I have helped to move them from oneside to the other. And after all the years I have been doing it I would not stop now and the ponys do look well aske Colin who has been out with me.

18:3375937Samphire Hoe became a secret favourite of mine since I used to take our dog (sadly died a couple of years ago) for long walks up there. There is something about the quiet and the sea and the wind that stops you hearing anything else (memo to self, buy charcoal!!!) Seriously - a lovely place to be.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

23:1876010I remember Samphire Hoe when it was a building site full of workshops for the maintenance of the tunnel locos and rolling stock and plant machines. The spoil from the tunnel used to come from underground on conveyor belts and dumped into man made lagoons from a dizzy height. When the gales came in the winter the spoil was blown every where and every thing was covered in a layer of chalk dust. It was like working in a dustbowl. Colin will confirm this as I think that he worked down there at the same time.
I have only passed it on the train and I must admit it looks quite nice now. I must get down there one day to have a look around.

14:3176086Alec, it's lovely, teeming with wildlife, flora and fauna, wide spaces in which to get lost (but no walking on the grass in case you tread on a snake or other wildlife!) and so much space to walk the dog. And the smell and view of the sea. I sometimes take sandwiches and just sit.

18:2276447That top picture of yours Colin is very similar to a sepia print that is in the shop for sale. It looks like the same bench and tree but taken from a different angle, you'll see if you pop in. I have a few prints by a local artist and an interesting acrylic canvas of Dover Castle. I want to try and support local artists if I can, by way of allowing their work to be seen in another place.

19:5076472Thanks for your kind offer Vic, I'm sure it'll look great on the wall. Anytime after 10.30 in the morning would be best. I know you popped by and looked in the window a week or so ago, and I wasn't sure why you didn't come in and say hello - you were gone before I knew it otherwise I'd have come outside myself.
