Did you hear that fatuous Union woman implying Clarkson was Gadhaffi-esque.....??! I understand that due to cutbacks hers was one of the last funnybone-ectomies performed on the NHS..............

There was a GMB chap on BBC this morning who had done his research, coming up with two countries who kill or otherwise persecute trade unionists, Guatemala and Belarus. Of course China still routinely executes dishonest bankers, as did the Soviets.

Peter is making a good point though. On this forum and in other ways the same kind of thing Clarkson was saying about strikers has been said about bankers without the kind of daft hysteria that greeted Clarkson. It is also true to say that those saying these things about bankers are in some cases those making a fuss about Clarkson...

I think that the amount of defence given to Clarkson's bad "jest" is in proportion to the amount the defender agrees with the sentiment behind the remark. More worrying should be the fact that we are now in a time where the most moronic and offensive statements are forgiven on the basis that the person responsible is a "straight-shooter". I personally think that the puerile racism and bigotry presented as "straight-talking" on Top Gear, and other programmes, would be discouraged in a primary school playground.
That said, I have never lost any sleep over the number of times I have read or heard that local councillors should all be hung.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
