The story refers to the offenders as "two big teens" at the beginning but later refers to the suspect? a tad confusing. Hope Peter suffers no lasting injuries from a terrible incident.

rather strange that it happened at the busiest time of the week with the new market there.
from what i know and see of the bloke he simply works away in a dark corner trying to earn a crust it seems that someone else was attacked and he tried to stop it.
hope he recovers quickly.

"We understand the office of Ann Barnes, Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, has been informed of concerns about the police response to the incident."
Good, the police response or should that be the lack of it was appalling.
"A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers were deployed to the scene and while on their way they came across and had to deal with a collision which had recently happened and was partially blocking the A20 Roundhill Tunnel."
Was there only one police car covering this area of Kent.

Ann Barnes is going to apologise to the people of Dover this week in the DE for poor police work, read the story to be amazed about the 999 call that got an appointment in 2 days only to be called by the police at 05.30 the following morning, and after an incident when a young mother was attacked how 2 policemen had to come from Folkestone to take a statement.Poor Policing no in Dover it is no Policing!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

I never thought the day would come when our Police would be held in so little regard by the public. Tragic for all of us. I guess it gives Estate Agents a break though!

Pauline it is not that the Police are held with little regard, my contempt is solely for those that control them with the result that when we need police help there is nobody available to respond.

We,re all paying well for this service (almost non existant service) on our council tax bills.

I don't think its the individual police Pauline, its the management/administration of the force.
Brian says earlier that 5 police cars were at Shakespeare Cliff watching a young man in distress, a terrible thing for the man and his family but what were 5 police cars doing?
Total mismanagement of resources.

all we get now are soundbites from the top brass about zero tolerance and mini exhibitions in market square where they hand out goodies.

I agree but it must be very demoralizing for the guys on the beat.

As reassuring as a Police presence may be, this young man needed an ambulance, and by all accounts that is what he got.
The culprit(s) are no further from being caught now than they would have been had the Police got to the car park in good time.
A swift resolution/arrest would be a reasonable indicator of continued Constabulary effectiveness.
That said, there has been a distinct lack of coverage on these pages recently of PC Tuthill who used to feature regularly.

I have to disagree with your first point Tom, a good description of the assailant and a drive round just might have seen the culprit/s in handcuffs.
I completely agree with your second sentence, we used to get regular information posts from the police, I don't think there has been anything from them since the move which is a shame.

This attack was witnessed and full details of the perpetrator and his acolytes have been furnished to the police. They hung around for a few minutes afterwards on the pavement opposite before walking off, with the perpetrator gleefully punching his clenched fist into his other hand, well pleased with his work.
It is the culmination of a couple of months of harassment of a specific elderly shopkeeper, at times by quite a large number of youths and sometimes a couple of girls, including riding bikes through his shop and jumping on his merchandise. The police were aware of this and he had been issued with a Shopwatch radio. Unfortunately what appears to have been the sole available police car in East Kent had been detained by a traffic accident en route and the police had still not been able to attend by the time the other shops closed for the day.

The Government is shutting the Police down.
The Government lives in Cloud Cucu land.
They live on Planet X and are not really of this world.
Every now and then some drunken brawl in the House of Parliament pub requires Police intervention, or some MP has to be referred to the Police and the Court for offences of various kinds, and to the over-crowded prisons.
Yet they are closing the Police Force!

I agree with David!!!
the police could reorganise itself and at the same time get rid of top heavy managers which are costly.
maybe looking at priority calls in a different way, or how it polices
