I cannot find the other thread on which the new Asda is discussed so I am doing a Vic and spreading it around a bit....
I went into Asda for the first time yesterday, and what a dump!!! I know we should be encouraging new business and supporting new shops, but it is a real disappointment. Dingy, badly laid out, lots of nothing at all, poor checkouts, a real downer. Although as I do not use Asda as a rule and have not been in one for years so that might simply be Asda for you! But I had not heard bad things about it before.........won't be going back - Morrisons has a better choice, is more pleasant to shop in and is just around the corner for me when I have forgotten stuff. Main shop done elsewhere.

Hopefully the powers that be at Asda read this forum and make the necessary changes. On a general note I am getting totally cheesed off by sales assistants who are unable to smile ,utter please and thankyou's and think they are doing YOU a favour by deeming to serve you.

Having chatted to lots of people who have come into the shop since Asda opened, I have yet to hear anyone who has anything good to say about the shop. One lady who had compared Asda prices with Morrisons said they were about the same and returned to Morrisons not having bought anything. I still have not been in there so have no opinion as yet.

agreed morrisons is the best in my book, the only problem being that like many now they do not have a checkout for basket only customers.
they have a self service check out but i don't use them on principle.

I always use the self service checkouts. I get huge pleasure from shouting "shut up you stupid cow" at the woman hidden in the machinery who keeps telling me to put the item in the bagging area.

It must surely be down to the local manager as to how the store is run; if this is the case, he should be changed before the store loses all its customers.

Damn cheek. A mans bagging area is his own private business.

at least all this has solved a mystery, i had doubts that there was a lady hiding under/inside the machine.
a cynic told me that it was a computerised message, some people eh?

Lousy customer service seems to be the norm nowadays with most retailers. They are more interested in flogging "loyalty" with silly points rather than actually delivering decent service. Sign of the times, I'm afraid. Like banks, gone are the days when decent management ran the shop. The only thing that matters nowadays is the weekly sales target. It's a shame that the marketeers don't get it - loyalty comes from delivering good service, and that's what makes the customer come back.

Service is one thing Morrisons are very good at, ask where something is and you are taken to it straight away by the friendly staff.
I hate those self service tills which are useless if you have more than a couple of items and as for that female voice Peter mentions,

agree about morrisons, all very friendly and helpful.
i read somewhere that they have the lowest turnover of staff out of all the big supermarkets.
must be that they treat their staff better and we get the end result.
We are all agreed about Morrisons then. When my Mother and I used to go there for her shopping and a meal they staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. Always fetched the wheelchair and made sure she was comfortable. A pleasure.
