HMMMMM, Police on time and a half or more. Ok not their fault a good gain.
Soldiers on normal pay and leave cancelled.
That all sounds very fair to me.

Yes it is beginning to look like a shambles alright, yet another one under Home Secretary Therese May's watch.
But the concern mentioned now constantly on the radio this morning is...will the guys already recruited by G4s actually turn up for work. You might remember that item recently on TV where a customer service company was offering jobs. The MD said that he recruited and recruited but then they dont turn up...some do for a day or two and then vanish, others despite agreeing to start work never appear. This seems to be the latest concern re G4s too. How many of those already signed on will appear or will they prefer to continue signing on elsewhere if you get my drift.
Staff or potential staff have no committment to the work, its short term, its generally poorly paid, it interferes with benefits...so a real further concern has manifested itself here.
We may need yet more troops. And yes its true all others mucked about by the Olympics are getting increases in pay for the extra work/stress levels...but so far NOT the army.

Keefy these concerns re 'not turning up' apply to the extra staff already hired...this therefore a real concern over and above that 3,500 shortfall figure...this problem could shove that shortfall figure way higher.

Have we had a change of Government over these last thirty years or so?
It seems that there has been no halt in the philosophy of throwing money at a problem and calling it 'sorted'.
Billions put towards getting people back to work. (hurrah?)
Billions laid out to secure the Olympics. (Job done?)
Oh!
And billions upon billions of good money sent after bad to cure what ails the Banks. (phew?)
Somebody has to learn the difference between, 'nostrum' and 'placebo'!
Plainly, the present crisis makes it abundantly clear that pumping cash straight into the coffers of directors and shareholders without the least intention of any of the money filtering through the wallets and purses of the employees is another folly in a very long line of follies.

there was a suggestion somewhere in the media that bonuses for the g4s top brass is taken away and shared among the service personnel dragged in.
now that would go down well with the public.

All is not quite lost. A letter from today's Telegraph...
"SIR - There will be 70,000 volunteers working all over the country to make these Olympic Games work. Some will be experts in a particular field, others will do any task assigned to them. Some have been involved in events in preparation for the Games.
All, whether or not they live in London, have attended a half-day orientation course, a role-specific training day, a venue-specific training day and will have collected their uniform and accreditation for each event at different venues in London.
Some shifts at the Games begin at 6am and last for more than eight hours, others finish after more than eight hours at 11pm. Some shifts are days apart so require an extra journey home. Virgin Trains will provide one first-class return journey to the Games, and one meal per shift is provided. Other than that, all travel and accommodation is the responsibility and at the expense of each volunteer.
I am one of these volunteers and was involved in interviewing potential volunteers in the North West. I met the most wonderful people, young and old, and they will be among the unsung heroes of 2012.
It restored my faith in human nature.

And yet we hear that many of these volunteers are set to be stranded in London with very little by way of joined-up-thinking and less action on the late night/early morning public transport front. Some volunteers who have undergone all the training are yet unsure if it is possible for them to carry on and do what is asked of them, and what they dearly wish to do, because so little thought has gone into the logistics of getting volunteers to and from the games.

Now, now Colette, surely this is more than compensated for by the wrap-round verandas?
