The District Council has seen the Government cut budgets by 40% starting 2010 over a 4 year period.
Somehow the money has to come in, hence parking fines for cars parked where they should not be.
The Convenience Store is no exception. They cannot expect preferential treatment!

you have misread the report alex, the convenience store owner is accusing the council of giving market traders preferential treatment.

Read that too, Howard.
But should traders be denouncing other traders over parking fines?

No trader is denouncing any other trader. The story is about the council applying the rules unfairly - the trader is denouncing the council, not other traders.

This will only increase tension when the market traders start getting fines on Tuesday after the Council were alerted.
They in turn will note how they saw cars parking in front of the convenience store when they shouldn't 'of.
So as not to appear discriminatory, the Council will then hike a spike in parking fines in that area, and so it will go on...traders peeping out to see if other traders are getting their due fines...

oh gawd blimey guv,
if the shop owner got a fine, then those organising or stall holders if they park in illegal place should also get tickets

i doubt if mr satish paid it, the ticket was incorrectly issued according to the report. i would like to see the traffic wardens(forget their fancy new name) turn their attention away about 100 metres and check that vehicles in disabled bays are displaying a badge.

Perhaps you could enlarge your post #9 is there a medically qualified statement you are trying to make, or an observation?

The entire traffic management strategy in Dover is a horse's arse and needs a rethink from the bottom up. (Pun intended). The distribution of short and long term parking seems highly arbitrary; there are places where on-street parking would be perfectly safe; the one-way systems make people burn fuel unnecessarily and have turned Barton Road, Frith Road, Maison Dieu Rd, Priory St and London Road into race tracks. Taking away the bus stop lay-by opposite the Charlton Centre was totally crass and will result in a pedestrian death in due course. Having Castle St and Russell St as one-way roads just creates congestion. Making port traffic transit what was once the town centre was a decision for which those responsible ought to be cast into outer darkness.
Inconsistent enforcement is a godsend by comparison.

Agreed Peter with all your points
"Taking away the bus stop lay-by opposite the Charlton Centre was totally crass and will result in a pedestrian death in due course."
It is hell trying to cross the road from the Iceland side when there is a bus stuck right out in the road as a pedestrian has to walk well into the road to see if anything is coming.

The bus stop is still there but it was to much trouble for the buses to pull in, therefore in their wisdom they changed it so the lay-by went and the buses now block half the road.

sadly buses run to a timetable. often buses would get caught up in traffic because cars wouldnt let them out when at a bus stop.

What a shame. Much better to put kiddies in pushchairs at risk than let a bus be a minute late.

a minute each bus stop means 50 odd minutes in a full round robin
i cross easy enough probably easier now the bus blocks the road more rather than having to cross two lanes of fast flowing traffic
