Does anyone watch the popular comedy cartoon South Park? In case you don't, very briefly it's an adult-themed comedy show with a cast of characters that are generally rude, crude and plain silly and the makers of South Park (Matt Stone and Terry Parker) tend to attack a lot of aspects of popular culture and topical issues. The show has a strong parody-led focus, and nothing is off limits to the writers.

For the 200th episode of South Park the show featured the prophet Mohammed in a comedic sense. South Park has always had a regular Jesus character who has always been very funny (if anyone remembers the Xmas special where Christ had a fight with Santa Clause then you'll know what I mean) and they've also had daft cartoon characters of God and the Devil. But anyway, the Mohammed character has led (rather predictably I guess) to death threats being made against the creators by an Islamic group.

I've read online that the New York Times has reported that the FBI are not dong much about this threat but South Park fans are. On 20th May fans are holding a huge event called "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day". I'm wondering if Islam will be issuing death threats to every single participant of this event?

Surely not - they say this is the "religion of peace" so surely a bit of harmless parody - which Christians, Catholics, Jews, et al seem relatively cool about in popular culture, should result in death threats?
