I see that someone wanting a flag in Pencester now. I have no issue with events etc may even find out how much was raised for last one

but would not using some of the apparent million on the flowers in town and improving the town be better. I am sure her majesty has enough flag poles, maybe something different and community based? Maybe improve the 2 sides of Pencester gardens (where bus stops are and car park) as they look rough and Pencester gardens is used a lot. I am sure DTC will cover/reimburse public liability insurance like they did last one.
Or maybe put some flags on the 2 flagpoles on corner of pencester and maison dieu if you really want flags. (fed up with dam flag poles wanting to be put here and there)
How about making a nice walk that goes through Pencester and up the Dour, and making it nice?

We did have a lovely walk through pencester until some selfish egocentric idiots in whitfield decided to rip it out and plaster it in tarmac to make an unwanted unneeded and virtually unused cycle come footpath, on a brighter note it is easier to see the piles of dog crap.
What you suggest Darren would be great for the town, ergo it won't happen!

Any particular flag Darren, there was a chap with an ISIS flag outside Big Ben a few days ago and the Mayor of london thought it was Ok what with us being a free country.

The Cyclepath/footpath through Pencester Gardens has nothing to do with DDC, a collaboration between KCC and Sustrans is responsible for the disaster from Ladywell down to the seafront.

My apologies DDC, they're still selfish egocentric idiots though

I think this calls for a calm measured response from Augusta, sorry for writing this in crayon but I am not allowed anything sharp where I am.

Not being up to date on this new flag request or will it be a fight, where is the proposed siting and why should there be a flag in Pencester Gardens?

I'm surprised that Mrs Pearson hasn't made a fuss about the "Flags Of All Nations" that bedeck our High Street. I haven't counted how many nations are represented but I can't seem to see the Union flag! Not that I wish to cause trouble of course!

I can't find anything new about a flag, according to DDC's planning pages the last application relating to Pencester Gardens was over 7 years ago.

It was from a post Augusta put on Dover Mercury, think they linked it dated 9th July

Right. Who is with me on this? Lets ask DTC and DDC to organise a birthday party to celebrate HM The Queen's 90th birthday party. A "Right Royal picnic " in Pencester Garden. Laid on by DTC out of our million in the bank. DDC have confirmed Pencester Garden has not been booked yet. To mark the special occasion, how about putting a flagpole in Pencester Garden, from the people to HM The Queen. I have been discussing this with a number of people for some weeks now but I honestly think DTC and DDC should mark the occasion for us rather than me organising it again. Please no negative comments. If you have constructive criticism to offer, please do so but, abuse, foul language or personal attacks will be deleted. Lets get together on this. Phil Hayes, Dover Mercury your help would be appreciated. Lets put Dover on the map and let us raise a glass, as a united town, to the health of our Queen and our flag.

For a minute there I thought she posted "abuse, foul language or personal attacks would be deleted"!!
Maybe she is expecting Her Majesty to come along as an equal?

Thanks Darren.
I like the typical Augusta comment "Please no negative comments." I learnt some time ago the lady does not appreciate any adverse comment however helpful it might be intended.

Are we actually talking about her 90th. birthday next year, or the fact she will be the longest reigning Monarch this September ?

I am only a part time Dovorian these days so I usually avoid controversy, but I hope the powers that be and especially the press ignore this idea and stop giving this flag-obsessed woman the publicity she craves.

I hope that if Her Majesty does turn up she will bring a large supply of those polythene bags to clear up after her corgis. Would be bad publicity for the town if she got an on the spot fine.

Well put Judith I think you are right, even though she means well with her ideas she certainly annoys many people.
Howard, DDC only catch a couple of smokers a year who drop their cigarette butts, dog owners who leave their dog mess can escape fine free so the Queen need not worry.

I hope Mrs Pearson reads this forum in 2012 when it was the Queens Diamond Jubilee a party was held in Dover Town Hall for 150 people aged 75 and over .Every Parish and Town was represented .It was organised and paid for by DDC .The gifts to entertainers and flowers were paid for by myself as I was Chairman of DDC at that time .Pupils from different schools in the District acted as hosts and some pupils provided entertainment.
I post this so Mrs Pearson understands DDC do mark special events .DDC no longer hold large entertainment budgets .I held small receptions in the Chairmans Office to mark certain events. I think a lovely rose garden would be lovely to celebrate the Queens Birthday .Not another flag.
