Trying to get to the bottom of this 'cause I really dislike discussions without facts!
Estee Lauder statement on animal testing here, it says there are against it but doesn't say they don't do it -

This appears to be the root of the story but doesn't give any substantiation -
https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3859
It does however give this info which is good - "PETA is financially supporting the efforts of the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), which is putting together a coalition of corporate experts, providing training for scientists in China in the use of non-animal test methods, and working with officials there to promote the acceptance of non-animal methods that are used in the U.S., the European Union, and much of the world. "
And a link to an item on the IIVS website showing China is already moving ahead with in vitro testing which is also good -

Article from the Independent last August -
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/fashion/estee-lauder-expands-chinas-cosmetics-universe-2341853.html
Extract from same - "Estee Lauder first moved into China in 1993 and has since been actively catering a selection of its products to local needs. The company cites the Nutritious brand of cosmetics, which was developed specifically with mainland Chinese women in mind but is now sold globally, as one of its major success stories. With its Asia Innovation Center in Shanghai - a facility that combines biology research, treatments, makeup and package testing - the company also claims it will continue to "study Asian skin and identify the needs of Asian women." The company has estimated that US$1 billion (700 million euros) of its sales over the past year have gone to Chinese women across the globe."
So there's a lot more to the story than an unsubstantiated statement from a vegan makeup artist - this story is sure to "run rabbit run"
