22:0237352I see that that plans have now been submitted for the Giant Donkey !!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/8455429.stm
Isn't their statement "If approved, it is estimated the sculpture could attract up to 60 million people each year" like saying the M25 has lots of visitors or so they expect all those people just to go stand under it
Been nice knowing you :)

22:5437364Very nice too Jeane, (your`s), and rather than waste 2 million pounds on that false statue, why don`t they put a green field there instead for `REAL` horses to retire to. Seems to me Eurostar are making too much money. Bunch of incompetent idiot`s. And 60 million visitors a year visiting? Will that include passenger`s who`ll be there anyway? Perhaps rather than a giant white horse, a giant white elephant would have been more appropriate. Great posting Paul.

11:2037403£2 million for a horse to greet visitors to Kent? Wouldn't a fraction of that cost be better spent on toilets for those visitors to be able to use?

21:4737476i trust not colin they are not 33 times the size of a horse.
the miner is admired by all who go past it, one of our past posters tried to have it half inched and taken to a country park. never happened though.
what do you think of the merchant seaman memorial statue?
i see it as very tastefull and fitting to those that perished.

22:0037480It`s a fine piece Howard. My father was in the merchant navy in the last war, and I`m sure he`d have been happy with it.

22:5837489interesting stuff colin, was his vessel comandeered during the unpleasantness?
i know that very many were and the untrained crew were thrown into situations alien to anything that they had imagined.

00:1637496A white horse. In Kent. Like the Invicta logo. Oh yeah, I get it. Well worth two million quid during a recession. Good one.

15:2037539Re #12. Yes Howard, all the Southern Railway ferries were commadeered in 1939 when day tripper`s suddenly stopped going over to France for some reason. As far as I can remember, he was on the Hampton or Shepperton ferry, both of which were used for minelaying. Ed might know more on them.......PAUL. If that Roman was me, I`d be straight round the former Market Square, and leave you to guess what I`d do with that sword.
