No excuses Brian. The port's management and DSAA should be working together to address the issues that were highlighted by the safety and security report alluded to by Doug Bannister at the scrutiny meeting at DDC. The aim being to try and find a solution that allows fishing off the Addy to resume whilst addressing and satisfying the safety and security obligations and liabilities of the facility owner, the port.

The two aspects of this appear to be getting in a muddle.
The sentencing of Charlie anyone wanting to look to help someone get a character reference whether private or public , you would have to question that person's sanity lol
I'm sure Neil you felt you did it in good faith, but I'm unsure many people in Dover District would agree with you on the moves you made in that direction .
Regarding the port , I think all the agencies will continue to all blame each other in a long ongoing
Saga where everyone loses , more so those in Aycliffe and I think over the years Gary has explained how , and tried to even suggest alternatives , but until all the agencies work together to find a solution , Gary and his community and the wider community will suffer

I started reading this post and thought it’s Ground Hound Hog Day .What has trial of trial Of Charlie Elphicke got to do with the subject in question,The Admirality Pier and fishing rights.Neil is being helpful and some how we got on to DHB and all the reasons for holding back the traffic further back the A20 to help the people of Aycliffe .It would be good if we could call that problem in for Scrutiny ..Keith why are you so concerned whether Charlie sought references from people he had worked with .Its none of your business.

The character reference came from a community director who represents the people of Dover and the same person who is now 'representing' our angling traditions and rights at Admiralty Pier. Of course its our business considering this person is payed a very good salary to represent the community even though we have not had the democratic process to change or ratify this persons position.

Whatever our feelings are about Neil's DHB position at least he was kind enough to respond, it is a shame this seems to have developed into a personal attack, this is why people stop posting on here.

Depends on what one defines as democratic, I guess. The process for selecting DHB Community Directors from candidates who put themselves forward includes:
Before any person is appointed as a director in accordance with paragraph (5) he or she must be interviewed by, and the Board must consult with, a panel comprising the Board’s chair and three members of a committee of the Board to be known as the Nomination Committee, the chair of the Dover Port Users Group, the chair of the Port & Community Forum, one elected member of the Dover District Council, one elected member of Dover Town Council, the Member of Parliament for Dover and the chair of the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

Let me do this in another way......
Certainly I personally welcome Neil's views
And long may they continue , but that doesn't stop me responding to them .
I merely added to other comments on our Charlie
I wouldn't have raised it first.
There is though an indirect association on Neil as a community rep and references ..
And I do think most locals would not be happy if they knew of that support .
But Neil has been open enough to explain this and that's fine.
Getting back to the Pier, I think the new ice cream vendor was mentioned or he has asked for support , I did go down one day and he was closed on a very hot day, and so much more more could be done in that area is merely an observation .

Perhaps he had popped back to the Marina Curve.

I understand DHB appear to be asking anglers to provide individual security clearance via Police vetting. Payment for security guards.Have sat Health & Safety course. No knives or scissors. Covid test clearance.
Source Daily Telegraph.
Talks continue.
Perhaps Neil can elaborate.

I think all I can say to that is a huge WOW! No wonder the DHB are so unpopular if that is true.

Hi Paul, good to hear from you. For the trial re-opening day only, I believe that the port's management have set forth the criteria that you mention from the Telegraph article. All costs of the trial opening day will be borne by the port. Those requirements listed are not the final settled position, they are a starting point and there should be pre and post trial day talks between port management and DSAA to try and reach a final position that is acceptable to anglers whilst allowing the port to meet its safety and security obligations and liabilities.

The only conclusion I can reach is that DHB do not really want the fishermen in the vicinity so are making life as difficult for them as they possibly can.
To require police vetting to simply try and catch a few fish is absolutely ridiculous.

On the other hand, I can't see unvetted people being allowed airside to catch butterflies on the grass adjacent to airport runways.

But unvetted people are allowed to walk into the cruise terminal buildings?
