on radio kent today someone from i think kcc
said we will do all we can to get people onto the a2/ m2
if that is the case , just came down jubilee way from tesco an hour ago
and the ferry was unloading and where were the lorries going ?
you,ve guessed it towards folkestone , none were going up jubilee way
guess we need the road minister down here by the weekend in his car ( will probably turn up by helicopter )
but when do these ministers finish for the summer ? someone said it is within next week and they sit in their gardens to opening of parliment in october , so looks like we are stuffed
could always invite him to the kearsney abbey councilor champagne garden party or has that gone ?

Like every transport minister before them, I fear the current incumbent will do nothing for Dover. Successive governments of all political persuasions have failed to address the economic decline of East Kent, and its inherent transport problems. I see no signs of change.

Actually Ron, ministers tend to get more done during recesses as they don't have to turn up at the house of Commons every day.

IF you say so Peter. Not hard really considering they do next to F A all year round.

Signs on the M25 this morning were saying take the M2/A2 to Dover so they are doing something right in that direction
Been nice knowing you :)

Hmm, sending the traffic to an even longer bit of single carriageway just a few miles from the port.
There could be a lot of vehicles trying to find alternative routes through the town if it gets bad that way too.

seems inevitable that the town will be clogged up at times during the summer holidays.

Rest assured, this weekend both the M20/A20 and M2/A2 to Dover will be completely gridlocked. This has happened before and will no doubt continue to happen, as the Government continues to fail to recognise the vital role that Dover plays in the national economy. Amazing how money can be found - £371 million no less - for the A3, including the construction of the Hindhead tunnel to help ease traffic between London and Portsmouth.

The public notice from the Highways Agency in today's Dover Express states that a new 30mph "temporary speed restriction" will come into force at the Roundhill Tunnels on 25 July - WAIT FOR IT - for approximately twelve months, and have a maximum duration of eighteen months. Are they seriously saying that the sixth richest economy in the world cannot repair a bridge! I think the good people of Dover, Folkestone, and indeed the whole country, deserve an explanation from the chief executive of the Highways Agency and Secretary of State for Transport as to why they are incapable of such basic tasks as maintaining the country's roads.
Bloody outrageous!!

i doubt there would be an 18 month wait if the tunnels were on the approach to heathrow or gatwick.
maybe charlie could get his teeth into this one?

I have sent Charlie the link to this thread. He is off on a well-deserved fortnight's holiday tomorrow so don't expect miracles.

What with this debacle together with operation stack, next time it is in force, heaven help drivers trying to get in or out of Dover.

Not one to moan, but what with this, Stack and Dartford crossing twice a day I may well become homicidal.
im working at Ashford at the moment and its a nightmare. Going in the morning the traffic crawls along but not to bad, but coming back in the evening it just grinds to a halt and takes forever. At least doubles the journey time!!
